    5 Tips for Improving Your Esports Skills

    Outside The Game

    The area you play in is a significant factor in your ability to perform in-game. A good posture at your desk will help prevent long-term medical issues later in life, while also raising concentration and minimizing stress. It also helps ensure you’™re sitting comfortably, as you need to be in a place where you can focus.

    Monitor Position

    Your monitor should naturally sit directly at your eye level, so you don’t have to look up or down to see the entire display. The distance of your monitor also matters! You may think it’s better to be up, close, and personal with your monitor to see your enemies clearer, but this is counter-intuitive. The closer your monitor is, the faster your eyes become fatigued and strained. A general rule of thumb is to have your monitor roughly arm’s length away or 20 inches or further if you have a large display.

    Seating & Desk

    Your chair should be your co-pilot. It will look after you during long sessions and ensure your team wins the crucial clutch rounds. Your feet should lie flat on the floor, with your knees at a 90-degree angle. With your chair and desk height high enough, your arms will land on the desktop naturally in a comfortable position.

    Sound

    Hearing sounds from your outside surroundings can be off-putting. To make it easier to concentrate, we suggest making sure you have soundproofing headphones. If you can’™t get a hold of any headsets, closing doors and shutting windows can also help block out noise. Doing this will improve your gameplay as you can focus more easily, and you have more of a chance of not missing any subtle sounds giving you and your team the advantage.

Whether you’™re playing Riot Games’™ VALORANT or Dota 2, It’™s essential to learn your game’s ins and out to get the advantage over your opponent.     Mechanical Aim

    It is good to know how your preferred gun performs. Practice with different guns and choose one with which you know you can play your best. Making sure you have precise aim is important as esports games can be fast-paced, so you must always be on the ball. Be ready to fire, as anything can happen at any point. Having fast reaction times is definitely an advantage when it comes to playing these types of fast-paced games. Many maps have different locations that are good for cover, so it is good to know where they are. Knowing these things will help you and your teammates find the perfect spots to claim a victory.

    Prevent Tilt

    ‘Tilt,’ in a gaming sense, has its origins in Poker but has made its way into gaming in general and describes when something happens in a competitive game that causes you to get mad or frustrated. While it’s natural to tilt and let your feelings get the better of you, there isn’t anything more damaging to your performance and your team’s performance than to let what happens in the game bother you so much to the point where you become tilted.

    Tilting can lead you to make irrational gameplay decisions that can drastically change the outcome of any particular round in your opponent’s favor, like:

    • Overextending in areas that give your opponent the advantage to ‘hunt’ the player that got you previously.
    • Becoming short and snappy with your teammates and critiquing what they do unhelpfully causing them to tilt as well.
    • Getting so frustrated that you lose concentration and find it harder to perform the easier shots.

    So tilting is something we need to avoid, and luckily for you, we have a few things that may help you both long and short-term with dealing with tilt.

    Short-Term Tilt

    Dealing with short-term tilt is easy on paper but hard to remember in the heat of the moment. But if you feel like you are starting to tilt, a few things can calm you down at the moment.

    Take a quick breather and remind yourself that it’s just a game at the end of the day. Just because you missed a crucial shot or a situation didn’™t go as planned doesn’™t mean you should let that affect you going forward; Everyone makes mistakes, and you aren’™t any different. Keep your eyes on the prize and focus on what you can do to get closer to victory.

    Long-Term Tilt

    Preparing before heading into the game is essential if you know you get easily tilted in esports games.
