We have a few weeks left until 2024 comes to an end, which means it’s time to reflect on what happened during the year. Dota 2 received a lot of interesting changes, we got new heroes and there were tons of events. Needless to say, the meta changed many times and some heroes ended up being a lot more popular than others.
Knowing which heroes performed worse than the rest is as important as learning which ones were the best. That’s why we are going to go through some of them in this article and learn why they ended up here. Keep in mind that Valve usually keeps track of these stats, so it’s very likely to see future updates that will buff these heroes.
Batrider
Judging by the stats that we can find on DotaBuff, Batrider is the hero with the worst win rating in the past 12 months. Currently, the hero sits at around 43.18%, which is almost 2% lower than the next on the list. In other words, it’s safe to say that he is not the best option you can get right now.
The main reason why Batrider’s stats are so abysmal is because of the meta. 2024 was a year where teams liked to focus on lineups that pay attention to farming and scaling. Heroes like Medusa and Wraith King terrorized each game, so Batrider did not have the time to shine, at least in the PUB meta.
What’s interesting is that the stats for the professional Dota 2 scene reveal a slightly different story. If we look at BLAT Slam I, the latest big tournament, we can see Batrider appeared in 15 games. What’s even more important is that he has a positive win rate (53.33%).
Chen
Moving on to the second position on the list, we have Chen. With a 45.02% win rate, he is the second-least successful Dota 2 hero in 2024, which is probably not surprising.
The truth is that Chen has never been a popular pick in PUB Dota 2 games. He is too complicated for most players to master, so they prefer to pick other options. This is one of the reasons why his pick rate is also among the worst – 0.69%.
If we check the stats from BLAST Slam I, Chen only had the chance to shine in 6 games. Those who’ve been following the professional Dota 2 scene should not be surprised by these stats because only a couple of players are famous for using Chen in their games.
Monkey King
The third place on the list is for a hero, which was once one of the best options you can get. Unfortunately, the last year was not good for Monkey King, so he is among the least successful Dota 2 heroes in 2024.
The current stats for MK reveal a 45.15% win rate, slightly more than Chen. Unlike the latter, however, Monkey King is a lot more popular in terms of picks.
In terms of the hero’s presence in the professional Dota 2 scene, he is only popular among some teams. Going back to the latest big Dota 2 event, MK played in 6 matches and won 5 of them, which is pretty impressive. One thing that makes him stand out is his ability to fill in different roles because he can be a core and support.
Tusk
A lot of people who are looking for a Pos 4 hero who is annoying and effective will pick Tusk. Once one of the most popular heroes, Tusk is not that big anymore and only has fans among those who have mastered him. This explains why Tusk’s win rate is 45.56% and his pick rate is slightly above 5%.
The hero’s stats in the professional scene are more or less the same as in PUBs. We saw him in 11 games at Blast Slam I, but his win rate is 36%, making it one of the lowest.
Tusk is one of the heroes that comes and goes in the meta, so we expect to see him back in action in 2025. All he needs is some slight buffs to his overall utility, and he can easily become the go-to position 4.
Terrorblade
The fact that Terroblade is so low on the list when it comes to PUB games is not that surprising. He has never been a popular pick outside of the pro meta, so most people won’t be surprised he’s among the least successful Dota 2 heroes in 2024.
If we check his stats, we can see that Terrorblade’s win rate is at 45.73%, whereas his pick rate is at 2.87%. The hero requires too much farm and needs good teammates in order to shine, so most PUB players don’t believe he is worth it.
In most cases, Terrorblade is a top-tier pick in the professional scene, regardless of the meta. With that said, it seems like he is not that favored right now because he only appeared in 11 games at Blast Slam I. What’s even more surprising is his win rate, which is at 36.36%.
Pangolier
Once one of the best midder and offlaners, Pangolier is now a shadow of what he once was. There was a time when this hero appeared in almost every game (even in PUBs), but it seems this isn’t the case anymore.
In 2024, Pangolier secured around a 45.78% win rate and a 3.39% pick rate. There are several reasons that resulted in these stats, such as the fact that other heroes are better at their Pango’s job. Also, Pangolier is not that efficient in the late game, which is what the meta mostly focused on.
The abysmal stats in the PUB Dota 2 scene also transitioned into the professional one. Although Pangolier secured a 75% win rate at Blast Slam I, he only appeared in 4 games. We hope to see more of him in 2025, but Valve will need to step up their game and buff him.
Conclusion
What’s important to remember is that even the least successful Dota 2 heroes can be solid options, depending on the situation. The fact that these heroes’ current win rate is not high does not mean they aren’t worth getting. As mentioned, we also expect to see buffs in the near future.
