Ninjas in Pyjamas has revealed that Max ‘maxster’ Jansson has been placed on the bench by mutual agreement with the 20-year-old player, and he will not be part of the team’s plans for 2025.
‘Maxster’ was put on the injured list in October prior to the team’s participation in Elisa Masters Espoo, where they were eliminated early following defeats against B8 and JANO.
Jacob ‘jocab’ Nerheden, who was promoted from the academy team to compete in Finland, stayed with the team during the Thunderpick World Championship, Svenska Cuppen — where Ninjas in Pyjamas fell to Metizport in the grand final — and YaLLa Compass Fall.
Ninjas in Pyjamas later revealed that ‘jocab’ would stay with the team for the Perfect World Shanghai Major RMR, with general manager Björn ‘THREAT’ Pers clarifying that “this is not a benching of Max nor an elevation of jocab.”
‘Maxster’ emerged two days later and reassured that he was recovering well; however, the team preferred not to expedite his comeback, planning for his return in 2025. That plan has changed, as both parties are now exploring an exit strategy.
Ninjas in Pyjamas faced significant challenges during ‘maxster’s tenure, primarily because of roster instability, resulting in group stage eliminations at ESL Pro League Seasons 19 and 20, and at BLAST Premier Fall Groups. However, he was also part of the squad that secured a second-place finish at YaLLa Compass.
