In Marvel Rivals, Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes—it’s no wonder that he found his way into the hit Hero Shooter released at the start of December.

One of the most popular heroes that you can play is Thor, the God of Thunder. The son of Odin is a member of the Vanguard class, so he can take a punch or two – but dish them out as well.

⌛️29 days until the Odinson swings into Marvel Rivals with a crack of thunder!

⚡️ Brace yourselves for the God of Thunder, Thor! Unleash godly lightning with the mighty Mjolnir and vanquish your foes with the full power of Yggsgard on December 6th!

    Marvel Rivals Thor Abilities

    Passive – Thorforce

In Marvel Rivals, Thor has a different resource than other heroes in Marvel Rivals: instead of ammo, he uses stacks of Thorforce. Each ability consumes one stack – with some consuming more. Using Thorforce grants the God of Thunder temporary health, making him tankier during fights.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Passive

Thor’s abilities also have a shared cooldown of 2 seconds, but if you run out of Thorforce, you’ll have to wait for the stacks to recharge regardless of cooldown.

    Primary – Mjolnir Bash

Thor’s primary is all melee as the King of Asgard smashes his enemies with his mighty hammer. Outside of dealing damage, hitting enemies with basic attacks refreshes Thorforce stacks, so if you keep swinging, you can use your abilities more frequently.

    Secondary – Hammer Throw

Odinson is nothing without throwing his hammer, and with his secondary, Thor can do just that. Mjolnir deals damage when thrown and on the way back, as well as generating the passive shield.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Secondary

    First Ability – Lightning Realm

With his First Ability, Thor puts down a dome of lightning, which damages enemies when they leave its area. Enemies that cross the area are also slowed.

This ability is also a great way to replenish Thorforce, as you’ll get a stack back for every enemy hit by the initial blast.

    Second Ability – Storm Surge

Thor flies forward with his hammer, knocking back and dealing damage to any enemies hit. Holding the ability let’s Thor wind up Mjolnir, gaining more distance with his jump as well as more damage.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Second Ability

    Third Ability – Awakening Rune

The current highest DPS ability in Marvel Rivals lets Thor swap his melee only basic attacks to projectiles that deal insane damage, as well as dealing damage around the God of Thunder. This ability also grants more bonus health than other ones, but it costs 3 stacks of Thorforce.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Third Ability

    Ultimate – God of Thunder

Fitting for Marvel’s Bearer of Lightning, Thor jumps in the air, floating for a while and dealing multiple ticks of damage in an area below him. After a few seconds, he crashes down, dealing huge damage in a slightly smaller area.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Ultimate

    Marvel Rivals Thor Team-Ups

The God of Thunder has two Team-Ups. First, he can work together with his siblings, Hela and Loki, which lets the Goddess of Death resurrect her brothers when she scores a takedown on an enemy Hero. This makes the Asgardian trio a fearsome diving threat, as Thor can make way for Hela and Loki, and even if the God of Mischief can’t outheal every opponent, Hela can keep the momentum going.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Teamup

Thor’s other Team-Up is with the X-Men Storm and Captain America, the First Avenger. When these three heroes are on the same team, Thor gains an extra 100 health, while Captain America and Storm get extra lighting effects: Steve gains Movement Speend and extra damage, while Storm can deal bouncing damage to enemies.

    Marvel Rivals Thor Tips

While in Marvel Rivals, Thor is specified as a Vanguard – which is what Marvel Rivals calls Tanks – his job is more similar to a Duelist’s: diving into the backline and trying to wreak havoc there, killing healers and disrupting enemy DPS’. Thor doesn’t have the tools to protect his teammates, but he can take out opponents very quickly.

While Thor is a Tank, he has one of the lowest health pools in the Vanguard class. However, he can still be tanky if you deal damage. You need to dive in with Storm Surge, use Hammer Throw to stack your health, and then after replenishing your Thorforce with Lightning Realm, you can clean up with Awakened Rune.

⚡ Watch out, Rivals! Thor's electrifying Costume inspired by Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder is coming to Marvel Rivals!

While Thor is a mainly melee character who thrives in the middle of a scrap, you don’t HAVE to dive headfirst into the opposing team. Awakened Rune gives you good range, and while the speed of the projectiles takes some time to get used to, once you have the timing, you can one-shot unsuspecting healers from across the map.

Thor’s ultimate has a long wind-up time, and it’s easy to escape, so it’s best saved for clutch moments when your opponents have to be on the point or near the convoy or when a teammate uses a CC ultimate – like Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto. However, don’t be afraid to use it on one target, as sometimes you’ll find enemies stuck in a corner, unable to escape the storm.

Overall, in Marvel Rivals, Thor plays a bit differently from other Tanks, but is still a very strong hero. He’s also good for beginners, as his kit flows well together, and his Team-Up heroes are also fairly popular.
