League of Legends Patch 25.09 – Overview

The newest League of Legends update comes with all sorts of changes that you need to know. Atakhan will only have one form now, and those who play support and jungle will have specific restrictions related to Champion Select.
As expected, some champions, such as Gwen, Yorick, Kalista, and Naafiri, will receive nerfs, whereas Leona, Ashe, and others will be buffed. We must address many different things about the LoL patch 25.09 and Season 2, so let’s dive in.
Meta Changes Following the LoL Patch 25.09
The latest League of Legends Patch 25.09 will pave the way for Season 2, and it will become available in April. Players won’t have access to a rank reset, but there are loads of other things that will change.
For starters, we at Blix.gg believe that the game’s pace will be faster than before. This is because the pre-Baron Void monsters will spawn a bit earlier. On top of that, the new bounty changes will make it harder for the team that’s in the lead to snowball.
As mentioned earlier, those who focus on Support and Jungle will “suffer” the most in the new patch. Due to the introduction of the different Champion Select restrictions and the starting items, these roles have to be more coordinated than before.
We also pointed out the specific buffs and nerfs following the League of Legends Patch 25.09. Gwen and Naafri, for example, will receive a substantial nerf that will put them in a weird position in the meta. The same is true for Kalista, a champion who dominated professional LoL matches. As for buffs, names like Morgana and Leona will become a lot more viable than before.
In terms of item adjustments, we will see different Boots changes. Things like the Symbiotic Soles will receive a nerf, whereas options like the T3 Feast boots will be better than before.
League of Legends Patch 25.09 – All Key changes
Following our brief overview of what you can expect, it’s time to dive a little bit deeper into what we’ll find in the new patch.
The map Graphics & Battle Pass

It has been a while since the LoL map received any changes, but this is finally going to change. As mentioned in our Spirit Blossom 2025 article, the new map will have a special festive look. In other words, expect to see a lot of flowers, bright blue colors, and many pink accents.
Of course, the new LoL update will also give us access to a new Battle Pass that will have 55 levels. From what we know, this item will contain 3 Champion skins, many Hextech chests, Champion capsules, seven new emotes, 9000 Blue Essence, and more.
LoL Patch 25.09 – Champions Buffs and Nerfs
There are a lot of interesting buffs and nerfs that you should be aware of once the new LoL patch arrives. Instead of going through each one, we recommend checking the official changelog. This is where you can find every single change and see which champions receive buffs and nerfs.
Item and System Changes

In terms of the item and system changes, there are a few things we want to point out. First, Atakhan will only spawn with this Thornbound form. This was done because Akathan’s other two forms’ spawn rate was imbalanced.
In terms of the bounty change, the new mechanism will make LoL feel like the one in Dota 2 in a way. The idea is to have a more reliable comeback mechanism, which means that bounties will have a much higher gold payout than before.
Another significant change in the new patch concerns the revamping of the Void Monster. As mentioned in the beginning, the Void Grubs will not respawn anymore, and both the Void Grubs and Rift Herald have different spawn times.
Anti-Lane Swapping and Roles
This update will bring key changes to lane swapping, as well as some roles like Jungle and Support. The important thing to remember about lane swapping is that certain champions will not receive XP or gold from the lane minions and won’t be able to consume the World Atlas charges. Moreover, the Turrent will have a 1000% increase damage on the top lane if there are two non-junglers and a support there.
As for Supports and Junglers, the latter will be auto-assigned with Smite, whereas Supports will get World Atlas. It’s also worth knowing that each team can only have one Smite.
Harsher Penalties for Griefing
Griefing is one of the worst things in League of Legends and every other MOBA, so Riot decided to take action. Following the most recent update, Riot Games added a lot stricter detection for those kinds of things.
Furthermore, those who report a player will now get feedback about what happened with that person, assuming the report is successful.
System and Item Changes
Alongside the boots changes mentioned earlier, the new League of Legends Patch 25.09 also brings a lot of other tweaks. For example, Rod of Ages now has lower HP and initial ability power.
When to Expect the new League of Legends Season?
If you want to play ranked matches in League of Legends Season 2, you can do that on April 30, 2025. The new season will begin at 12 PM in each specific time zone. Just keep in mind that there won’t be a rank reset, so you will not have to go through the annoying placement matches.
