Valve Removes Regional Qualifiers Ahead of StarLadder Major

Valve has eliminated the Major Regional Qualifiers (MRQs) across all regions before the StarLadder Budapest Major, as announced by the event’s organizer.

The 32 teams that will take part in the Budapest Major will be selected directly from the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), rather than going through a different qualifying process.

The MRQs for the Budapest Major were scheduled to take place online across Europe, Asia, and the Americas from October 16 to 19. These dates coincided with three major LAN events: CS Asia Championships, Thunderpick World Championship, and MESA Nomadic Masters Fall.

The MRQs were launched at the beginning of this year as a new significant qualification event to replace the RMRs. One major distinction between the MRQs and their former version is that they could be conducted online, which was true for the Austin Major.

The impact of this change on the regional allocation of Major slots in the future remains uncertain.

After the outcomes of the initial two stages of the Austin Major, Asia was set to receive an additional slot in Budapest (six slots instead of five) at the cost of the Americas (ten slots instead of eleven), while Europe would keep its 16 slots intact.

StarLadder has announced that they will provide more details about how invitations for the Budapest event will be distributed after the Austin Major concludes. They also confirmed that the invites for the second Major of 2025 will be released on October 8.
