Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, one of the most influential in-game leaders in Counter-Strike history, has officially retired from professional play and announced his transition into coaching. The move marks the end of a legendary era for one of CS’s greatest tactical minds – and the start of a new chapter that could reshape the coaching landscape in CS2.
The End of a Monumental Playing Career

Gla1ve’s name is synonymous with Astralis’ golden era. After joining the team in 2016, he led the Danish powerhouse to an unprecedented level of consistency and dominance. Under his leadership, Astralis captured four Major titles, an Intel Grand Slam, and 16 LAN trophies, establishing what many still consider the greatest dynasty the game has ever seen.
Individually, gla1ve also proved he wasn’t just a cerebral leader but a high-impact player. He earned a spot in the HLTV Top 20 in 2018 and secured an MVP medal at IEM Beijing 2019 after posting a remarkable 1.48 rating.
After parting ways with Astralis in 2023, gla1ve joined ENCE and added another trophy to his résumé by winning Elisa Masters Espoo 2024. His final LAN appearance came at Tipsport Conquest of Prague 2025, where ENCE finished second.
With his retirement, gla1ve becomes the third member of Astralis’ iconic core to step away from competing, following the earlier exits of dupreeh and Xyp9x.
Why gla1ve Is Retiring
According to gla1ve, the decision comes from “clarity” about what he wants to contribute to the game going forward. After being moved to the bench earlier this year, hebegan reassessing his long-term role in CS2. Rather than fade out, he chose to pivot.
He explained that years of in-game leadership taught him a wide arsenal of skills – tactical, structural, and interpersonal – and that he now believes he can deliver greater impact off the server than on it. His competitive fire still burns, just in a new form.
What Makes gla1ve a Promising Coach

Few players are as naturally suited for coaching as gla1ve.
His strengths align perfectly with modern CS2 coaching demands:
• Elite Tactical Understanding
As the architect behind Astralis’ groundbreaking era, gla1ve has one of the deepest strategic minds in Counter-Strike.
• Experience With Championship Pedigree
Having worked with multiple world-class teammates and coaches, he brings a high-performance culture wherever he goes.
• Modern CS2 Insight
Gla1ve believes he is one of the first Tier-1 in-game leaders to transition into coaching during the CS2 era – giving him both experience and freshness in the current meta.
• Player-First Leadership
He’s spoken about the importance of tailoring systems to individuals rather than forcing players into rigid structures – a defining trait of successful modern coaches.
What’s Next for gla1ve

gla1ve is currently evaluating coaching opportunities and has made it clear he is aiming for a head coach role, not a secondary support position. He is open to international projects and has not ruled out working with Danish players again in the future.
Whoever signs him will be acquiring not just a coach, but a proven leader with a championship resume and an unmatched understanding of what it takes to win at the highest level.
New Beginning
gla1ve’s retirement closes the book on one of the most influential careers in Counter-Strike history – but it may also open a new one that is just as impactful. If his coaching career mirrors even a fraction of his success as a player and in-game leader, the next great CS2 dynasty could very well be shaped by him.
For the first time since 2016, gla1ve won’t be calling rounds inside the server.
But he might soon be shaping the next team that dominates it.
