LDLC Group, the French electronic hardware retailer, has announced it will be ceasing all esports activities in July 2023 when its partnership ends with French football club Olympique Lyonnais.
According to a statement released by LDLC Group, the two parties, who joined in partnership in 2020, have decided to end their collaboration after failing to ‘find a sufficient place with the general public,’ through their esports investments.
“The end of this partnership will also mark for LDLC Event its withdrawal from the esports scene and its operational activities in this sector. The LDLC Group would like to thank all the teams of LDLC Event and LDLC OL for their commitment and their professionalism and wishes them every success for the rest of their projects in the world of esports,” LDLC said in their statement.
The LDLC Group, through its subsidiary LDLC Event, created Team LDLC in 2010 as one of the earlier pioneers of French esports. The French organization was most known for its efforts in CS:GO, having hosted the likes of: Kenny ‘kennyS’ Schrub, Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt, Richard “shox” Papillon, Vincent ‘Happy’ Schopenhauer, Kévin ‘Ex6TenZ’ Droolans, among many other famous names through the years.
LDLC also currently has teams in League of Legends, FIFA and other disciplines that will need to find new homes when Team LDLC closes shop in July.
