While Valve put CS:GO on consoles way back on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the chance of seeing CS2 on PlayStation 5 remains a question on the lips of many.

While the PlayStation 3 version of CS:GO stopped receiving updates several years after launch, with its servers reportedly shut down around 2018, the Xbox 360 version remained partially supported for much longer — Valve’s documentation notes that Xbox 360 servers were still active as of mid-2024.

Could Counter-Strike 2 Come to PlayStation 5?

Given that CSGO was on PlayStation, it might lead you to believe that the move to CS2 would bring the latest update to the latest round of consoles. While the Source 2 engine is also relatively new, and while it was first used in 2015 for Dota 2, it has yet to be seen on a console-released game.

Although unconfirmed by Valve, some analysts suggest that Counter-Strike 2 may face technical and competitive hurdles on consoles. Factors such as the Source 2 engine’s current PC optimization, the need for precise mouse-and-keyboard input, and maintaining competitive balance make a PlayStation 5 release unlikely in the game’s current state.

Valve is likely aware of how CS:GO performed on consoles, where post-launch support was relatively short-lived compared to the PC version. While this limited update cycle may have influenced Valve’s priorities, there’s no official evidence suggesting it has ruled out a future console release of CS2. Any claims that the idea is ‘dead’ remain speculative and should be treated as opinion rather than fact.

Thankfully, there are plenty of great Games on PlayStation 5. However, as of 2025, Counter-Strike 2 remains exclusive to PC and cannot be played natively on the PlayStation 5.

Valve has historically maintained a “PC-first” approach to development, focusing on optimizing its games for Steam and desktop platforms before considering console adaptations — if at all.

If you want to own a piece of history: CSGO will be removed from the Xbox 360 store on February 7th (still playable after) : r/GlobalOffensive

Could CS2 Come to PS5?

In 2021, during a Q&A in a public school, Gabe Newell teased Valve games coming to consoles “You will have a better idea of that by the end of this year,” Given this quote is now four years old and we have no new console games, it’s likely this isn’t going to happen or that whatever it was isn’t coming now.

Given the time of the quote, it could well have been CS2. The next game released by Valve was Deadlock, their take on the popular Hero Shooter genre, an ideal game for consoles, but for now, it is also just on PC.

It’s also worth noting that the input not being a mouse and keyboard would be a huge development headache for Valve and would force PC and console to be separated. Valve could force the use of a mouse and keyboard on console, but the availability of those isn’t wide enough, and CS2 probably isn’t the game to break that glass ceiling.

FAQ — Counter-Strike 2 on PlayStation 5 (2025)

Is Counter-Strike 2 available on PS5?
No. As of 2025, Counter-Strike 2 is only playable on PC (Windows and Linux). Analysts cite technical and balance challenges — such as mouse-and-keyboard precision, Source 2 engine optimization, and cross-platform fairness — as reasons Valve may delay or skip a console port.

Did CS:GO ever release on consoles?
Yes.
