Every Dota 2 fan knows the name Wang "Ame" Chunyu, he’s one of China’s leading carrys. Now, after being away for a year, Ame is finally back in competitive Dota 2. However, he’s not going back to LGD Gaming.
Ame has been a crucial part of LGD Gaming for years and spent a lot of time with the organization. However, he decided to take a break in 2023 so he could focus on his personal life and streaming career.
There were rumors that Ame would be back in action, but we didn’t expect it to happen until late 2024. That said, it seems we were wrong because China’s top-tier carry is now a part of Xtreme Gaming.
Ame is back
What’s most interesting about Ame’s decision to get back into the professional Dota 2 scene is that he won’t be a part of LGD Gaming. Despite spending many years with the org, the player has decided to try his luck elsewhere. According to the news from Weibo, he’ll join Xtreme Gaming, and the organization will create a new roster around him.
Xtreme Gaming basically disbanded its roster after failing to qualify for The International 12. Up until a few days ago, the only member of the squad remaining was Ding "Dy" Cong, but now Ame is also a part of it. Both are really big names in China, so we can’t wait to see them in action.
But, Xtreme Gaming will have to prove themselves to get an invitation to next year's big tournaments because Valve decided to remove the DPC. That’s why we expect to see the squad in action in some of the upcoming qualifiers.
Ame’s past
Before taking a break from the competitive Dota 2 scene, Ame had played his entire career for LGD Gaming. In fact, he was a part of the organization for eight years, which is not something you see every day in the Dota 2 pro scene.
Ame’s career started with CDEC Youth in 2015, which was when CDEC’s main team reached TI 5’s final. Once LGD noticed his talent, he quickly became a vital part of their Dota 2 team. Over the years, Ame’s impact has helped LGD Gaming achieve a lot of impressive results, including reaching TI’s final.
The future of Xtreme Gaming
It will be very interesting to see what will happen with Xtreme Gaming in the next couple of weeks. Considering Azure Ray’s recent decision to replace some of their players, we wouldn’t be surprised to see names like Lu "Somnus" Yao and Xu "fy" Linsen joining XG.
If something like this happens, Xtreme Gaming will feature 3 of the main players from some of LGD’s old rosters. Needless to say, this will make XG one of the most intriguing teams to follow.
For now, we’re focused on ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 to see how it plays out. The latter is the first big event of the new season and the last tournament for 2024. By the looks of it, 2024 will be a pretty interesting year for Dota 2 fans because there are loads of new teams joining the scene.
