With Vertigo out of the active map pool, Train is back—bringing its classic atmosphere, rainy aesthetic, and fresh CS2 updates. While Valve has made significant changes to the map, it still plays better than some other maps, like Inferno.
Train’s layout is simple to understand for both new and experienced players. Because of this, utility is essential, and the smoke lineups are easy to learn. Whether you’re playing solo or with a team, this guide will cover the key smokes needed to take over bombsites and win rounds.

A Site Smokes
Most of the action on Train happens at the A bombsite. With multiple entry points for attackers, defenders have several angles to hold. The new CS2 version of the map has changed key details, such as a larger bombsite, repositioned cover, and new sightlines.
To safely take control, you’ll need smokes to block key areas:
Ivy Smoke (Jump throw)
Ivy is a key position where defenders can hold an angle as attackers push from A Main. Smoking it off is crucial to prevent an early peek.

Gap Smoke (Left-click throw)
The new spacing between Red and Yellow trains allows defenders to see through the site more easily. This smoke blocks their vision and reduces the risk of getting picked from Hell or nearby angles.

Connector Smoke (Jump throw)
To cut off rotations, you can either smoke deep into Connector to completely block visibility or place it near default for a smoke wall, combining with the Gap and mid-site smokes.

Pop Dog Smoke (Jump throw)
Defenders often use Pop Dog for positioning. A well-placed smoke allows attackers to clear E-Box and Olof without worrying about a lurking defender.

These smokes help create a safer execution, limiting defender angles and forcing them into less favorable positions.
B Site Smokes
Unlike A, the B bombsite has only one main entry point: Halls. While this may seem restrictive, it also means that defenders usually leave only one player to anchor B while the rest focus on A.
Here are the key smokes for a successful B site take:
Connector Smoke (Run throw)
Just like on A, this smoke is essential for blocking rotations. Since Connector is elevated, the smoke needs to land outside the door to fully block the vision toward B-Red.

Orange/Backsite Smoke (Left-click throw)
This smoke covers the deeper back angles where defenders tend to hold. With this in place, it’s easier to plant and secure the site.

By using these smokes, you can limit defensive vision and take control of B efficiently.
Mastering Train’s smokes is key to executing successful site takes. The new map changes may require slight adjustments, but the core strategies remain the same. Whether you’re rushing A or taking control of B, these smokes will give you the advantage needed to secure rounds.
