One question worries many novice players: Do CS:GO skins wear out?
The short answer would be no, CS:GO skins do not wear out over time. However, a new player might think that because every skin has one of 5 types of wear. But how does that work exactly?
Types of wear
There are five types of wear for skins in CS:GO. Going from best to worst, these are:
- Factory New
- Minimal Wear
- Field-Tested
- Well-Worn
- Battle-Scarred
These are purely cosmetic and donât, for instance, cause your gun to jam.
Because CS:GO has a skin market, Factory New skins are usually more valuable than Battle-Scarred skins. But what determines the type of wear your CS:GO skin has, and why are some skins the same wear but at different prices?
Float value
Skin wear is determined by Float. As soon as you unpack a skin from a crate, the skin is assigned a Float value. The value ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, and depending on your Float your skin gets its type of wear.
The values for the types of wears are as follows:
- Factory New (0.00-0.07)
- Minimal Wear (0.07-0.15)
- Field-Tested (0.15-0.38)
- Well-Worn (0.38-0.45)
- Battle-Scarred (0.45-1.00)
Float is also the reason why some CS:GO skins with the same wear have different monetary values. Always make sure to look for the lowest float value when buying a skin, even if it means spending a couple more minutes looking through all of them.
Who knows, maybe you find a cheap low float skin that someone just put on the market without checking.
