FURIA Finally Breaks the Curse: First Big Event Trophy and the Rise of molodoy

FURIA finally claimed their first big tournament title after a long period of chasing trophies, by defeating The MongolZ with a score of 3–2 in a mind-blowing grand final of the FISSURE Playground 2. This win ends a streak of unsuccessful huge event appearances for FURIA, which marks a historic milestone for the Brazilian organization. But beyond the trophy, this tournament also revealed a new star: Danil “molodoy” Golubenko, who earned the event’s MVP award at just 20 years old.

    FURIA Breaking a Long-Standing Drought

FURIA lifting a trophy at FISSURE Playground 2

For years, FURIA had the reputation of a dangerous team that couldn’t quite cross the finish line. Their closest brush with Big Event glory came back in 2019 at the ECS Season 7 Finals, where they finished runners-up. Since then, they have repeatedly reached the playoffs and semifinals, but the trophy has always slipped away.

That narrative changed in London. FURIA fought through a grueling bracket, knocking out G2 — fresh off their BLAST Open London triumph — and local favorites Falcons on the way to the final. Against TheMongolZ, it took five maps and nearly six hours of Counter-Strike 2, with multiple overtimes, before FURIA finally stood victorious.

The victory was particularly emotional for stalwarts like Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato and Yuri “yuurih” Santos, who had carried the FURIA banner for years. “KSCERATO and I have been trying for years … I have no words,” Yuurih said after lifting the trophy.

    The molodoy Factor

While the veteran core finally got their moment, the spotlight belonged to molodoy. The 20-year-old rifler, who joined FURIA just five months ago in a bold international roster shift alongside Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis, proved himself to be the difference-maker.

Molodoy topped the team with a 1.19 rating across the tournament, delivering impact rounds when FURIA needed them most. His presence was felt throughout the marathon grand final, from multi-kill holds to clutch entries in decisive rounds. His consistency earned him the FISSURE Playground 2 MVP medal, his first at a big event — and almost certainly not his last.

This performance cements molodoy not just as a rising talent within FURIA, but as one of the most promising young talents in Counter-Strike 2 today.

    A Turning Point for FURIA

This victory validates FURIA’s gamble to break from their all-Brazilian identity and embrace an international mix. With molodoy and YEKINDAR adding fresh firepower, and the veteran core finally rewarded for years of persistence, FURIA have shown they can compete — and win — at the highest level.

For Brazilian CS2 esports, the triumph represents a rebirth. FURIA are no longer just the team that almost won; they are champions.

    What’s Next for FURIA

    ESL Pro League Season 22

The main question now is whether FURIA can turn this breakthrough into some kind of era of success. They will need to bring consistency, especially with bigger events coming soon. But with Molodoy’s emergence as a genuine star, together with KSCERATO and Yuurihh finally getting their trophy, and YEKINDAR adding his trademark aggression, this roster looks more dangerous than ever.

For the first time in years, FURIA’s story isn’t about what could have been. It’s about what comes next, and the closest tournament for FURIA will be ESL Pro League Season 22, which starts on September 28.
