StarLadder has unveiled information about its second event of 2025, StarSeries Season 20. This prestigious tournament is scheduled to be held in Budapest, Hungary from September 13 to 21. The event will feature 20 top teams competing for a share of the impressive $500,000 prize pool.
The upcoming Hungarian event will have a comprehensive offline format consisting of two stages. The first stage will involve a 16-team group competition, while the second stage will feature an eight-team main event. The event will primarily showcase teams from the upper echelons of competitive play, with participant selection based on the Valve Ranking. Teams will be invitedin order of their ranking position, with top-ranked teams receiving the initial invites.
The top four ranked teams that confirm their attendance will automatically advance to the main stage, while the following 12 invited teams will start their competition in the group stage.
The last four spots in the in-person group stage will be determined through online qualifier events for the Americas and Europe. The specific dates for these qualifier events will be made available by the end of 2024.
In the upcoming offline group stage, the tournament will use the GSL Groups format, which means that the top two teams in each group will compete for the four main event spots. As for the main event, it will feature a best-of-three double-elimination bracket.
StarLadder Announcement
In early April of this year, StarLadder announced four events, with StarSeries Season 20 being the first to have specific details about its location, format, and prize pool. Although StarLadder has not shared similar information for its earlier 2025 event, StarSeries Season 19, scheduled to run from May 26 to June 1, or for its two events planned for 2026.
