How to Play Deadlock: Valve’s New Shooter
Currently, the only way to play the game is to invite, which may seem difficult at first glance. Valve can randomly invite you, or you can get an invitation from a friend.
Getting a random invite from Valve is the more difficult option, as the primary tool here is luck and nothing else, and with a large number of Steam accounts, your chances are slim.
Luckily, a second option exists to become an invitee in the game. Here are a few ways in which you can start playing Deadlock:
- Use the Deadlock subreddit megathread to request an invite. If you need to learn to get one and want to play, the Reddit thread is your best bet. (However, you should remember that you’ll have to add the person who invites you as a friend, and you can get banned if the person who brought you in is caught cheating.)
- Ask a friend who already has the code to invite you.
- Join the official Deadlock Discord and request an invite.
- Use the Steam forums to find someone willing to invite you.
Once you get the invite, the game should appear in your Steam library, so all you have to do is download it and say goodbye to your free time, as Deadlock is very addictive.

How To Invite Friends
If you are a person who wants to invite a friend but needs to learn how to do it, then we can help you. Just follow the steps below:
- Go to the Main Menu.
- In the bottom right corner, you will see a blue box that says, “Do you have friends you would like to play with in our playtests?”.
- Click “Invite Friends.”
- Click on the Steam Name you want to invite.
- They should receive an invite within 1-2 days, though it may come sooner.

How Long Will the Playtest Last?
There is currently no official end date for playtesting. During the beta, there were time slots for each region where players could play player selection, usually 12 hours a day, which essentially limited the length of the beta each day.
The time slots were removed in the September 12 update, and player selection is active 24/7. If it’s anything like the Counter-Strike 2 closed beta, it will be active until full release, but there’s no official launch date for Deadlock yet.
Valve has finally unveiled the Steam store page, indicating that it will soon be available to the public. Keep an eye on this page for more details as it is updated.
Will Deadlock be Released on Consoles?
As of October 2024, Valve has not announced plans to release Deadlock on consoles. The game is still only available on PC and will remain exclusive.
