Even though it is only April, Valve decided to give us access to more information regarding The International 2025. Considering this is Dota 2’s most important competition, it’s always interesting to learn more about it. The Dota 2 team at Blix.gg analyzed everything, so here’s what you can expect.
The International 2025 Will Have a new Format
Among the things that Valve decided to change for this year’s The International is the format. According to the information, the event will have a Swiss-format Group Stage, as well as a Special Elimination Round. In addition to all of that, the Playoffs will also have some small tweaks so that they are more interesting to watch.
What’s interesting about the five-round Swiss bracket is that six teams will play in Bo3 matches against other teams with the same series. This means that a team that wins with 2:0 will face another one that has the same result, and so on. Winning 4 matches will allow the team to advance to The International, whereas losing 4 matches means that the team will be eliminated.
Once the five rounds of Swiss are over, the top three teams with four wins advance to TI, whereas the bottom three with four losses will be heading home. The remaining 10 Dota 2 teams will need to play in an elimination round, and only five of them will advance to The International 2025.
According to Valve, the company took “special care to make sure fans can know in advance when their favorite teams are playing”. In terms of when to expect the Road to the International, it will begin on September 4 and end on September 7. Once it is over, 8 teams will advance to TI, whereas the other 8 will head home.
