Sadly, one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent Dota 2 organizations decided to leave our favorite game. After spending more than 8 years in professional Dota 2, the Indonesian organization will end their journey.
BOOM Esports & Dota 2
Old-school Dota 2 fans may remember that BOOM Esports began competing in 2017 with a full Indonesian lineup. As expected, the organization changed its roster over the years by adding players from different parts of the world, especially SEA.
After several successes, the team slowly but steadily became one of Southeast Asia’s powerhouses. BOOM has won more than $1.6M in total and has always been one of the forces that others had to deal with. It’s safe to say that the club’s peak came in 2022 because this was when it won the Gamers Galaxy Invitational Series after defeating Tundra Esports.
Tundra actually won The International in that year. Speaking of TIs, BOOM Esports took part in two of them, the last one being in 2025. Sadly, the club did not manage to live up to the expectations and finished last.
The Players
We can safely say that BOOM Esports is responsible for introducing many big names to the professional Dota 2 scene. Players like Yopaj, Miokoto and Fbz have all played for the team and proved themselves as some of the best in their respective positions.
Poor Recent Results
Despite the success of the events and the presence of numerous world-class players, BOOM’s current state has not been ideal. The team simply could not keep up with the rest in the Tier 1 competitive scene. In fact, the squad failed to qualify for any of the big LAN events in 2024 and 2025. It seems like this led to the decision for the organization to leave Dota 2, at least for now.
To be fair, BOOM’s Valorant team is also not doing that well. The squad has had some issues and failed to qualify for the VCT Pacific. It will be interesting to follow the results there because we may see BOOM pull out of it, too.
