The Esports industry is growing, and even though Dota 2 may not have the stats it once had, it continues to be a leading title. 2024 gave us access to a lot of epic tournaments and moments. ESL One Bangkok 2024 was the last big competition, which means that teams will have some time off before 2025 arrives.
Speaking of 2025, Dota 2 fans have a lot of expectations. Although the game’s current state is not that bad, people want to see improvements. We at Blix have been monitoring the game for years, so we want to share our Dota 2 2025 expectations because we believe that some things will change.

New professional tournaments
If you ask most of the people within the Dota 2 community, a lot of them will tell you that they expect to see even more new events. We have already covered the 2025 Dota 2 Tournaments preview and saw that there are a lot of intriguing options. With that said, we expect to see even more tournaments in the next couple of months.
Old-school Dota 2 fans may remember that Valve has taken different approaches to its tournaments over the years. Since the game’s popularity is lower than before, the company may decide to introduce new changes again. Many Dota 2 fans and players miss the old Minors and Majors, as well as the entire DPC. We wouldn’t be surprised if Valve decides to bring it back.
Some drastic map and gameplay changes
When it comes down to the Dota 2 2025 expectations, one thing that we think will happen is related to map and gameplay changes. People who have been playing for a long time know that Valve often decides to take such steps. Some players who are bored with the current state of the game may decide to give it another chance if the map changes.
When talking about drastic maps and gameplay changes, we have to mention the game’s complexity. It’s safe to say that Dota 2 is one of the least “noob-friendly” games in its genre. New players are easily overwhelmed by the tons of different things they need to know about. This pushes a lot of them away to other games because they do not want to invest the time and go through the stress of learning everything.
One way to fix this problem is to make the game more “clean” and understandable for new players. There are many different steps that Valve can take in this regard, such as removing some of the unnecessary stats/items. Alternatively, it can also try to group everything in a more convenient way or come up with something else that targets new players.
More new heroes
In addition to making the game more understandable for new players, our Dota 2 2025 expectations are that Valve will add more new heroes. Kez became the most recent addition to the game, and even though a lot of people do not like him, there’s no arguing that he is fun to play.
If we have more new heroes in Dota 2, a lot of players may decide to come back to the game and test them. Yes, some may not like what they see and will give up on the game once again, but there will definitely be people who will keep playing.
The addition of more new heroes will also make the PUB and Pro scenes more interesting. People will be eager to use them and try to come up with different strategies around them. Needless to say, this will make the game way more fun to play and definitely more intriguing to watch.
New game modes
There is no arguing that people like playing Dota 2 because the game offers a lot of action. Although this is true, it has been a while since the community has seen innovations in terms of the game modes. As a result, we expect that 2025 will give us access to new game modes for our favorite game.
We would really want to see a new mode similar to the popular All Pick alternative. It will be hard for Valve to come up with something like that, but if it becomes available, it will definitely attract a lot of people back to the game.
New events
When it comes to Dota 2 2025 expectations, we need to talk about events. Things like Diretide have always been fan favorites, so we expect to see a lot more of them.
Alongside the traditional Dota 2 events that we are used to, we believe that there will be even more innovations. The company may decide to include special smaller events for different kinds of festivals that take place in certain countries. We may even see cross-game competitions.
Collaborations
If there is one department where Valve definitely needs to step up its game, it has to be related to collaborations. Unlike games such as Fortnite, Dota 2 hasn’t had any big collaborations until now. Yes, we have seen a couple of things over the years, but they do not come close to what other games have in stock. Fortnite is definitely the best example in this case because it works with all kinds of creators and other people.
Considering Dota 2’s history, we wouldn’t be surprised if we see some innovative ideas. Besides the new game and options that we will have access to, we also expect to see a lot of new items. Dota 2’s cosmetic items are one of the big reasons why the game has so many fans, so if Valve decides to innovate in this area, we can expect to see some really good results.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, we’re confident that 2025 will be an even better year for our favorite game. It will be very interesting to see if Valve will actually decide to innovate in some of these areas. We believe that the game needs some innovations if it wants to continue to be one of the go-to MOBAs.
