Some may consider the safe lane carry to be the least interesting role in Dota 2. Nevertheless, every team needs a carry to win the game, and the Dota 2 Patch 7.39 changed the names that stand out.
The following 7.39b update also gave us access to a few small nerfs, so now that the dust has settled, it’s time for our Dota 2 Patch 7.39b Safe Lane Hero Tier list. We have been playing non-stop for the past week, so let’s go over the heroes that we believe are worth picking.

Dota 2 Patch 7.39b Safe Lane Hero Tier List
The safe lane is one of the positions always “influenced” by the current meta. Indeed, some teams like experimenting with different picks, but most players always rely on the meta picks.
We followed many top-tier carry players and saw that many focus on a few specific heroes. That’s why we have the following safe lane patch 7.39b tier list:
- S+: Spectre, Wraith King, Juggernaut, Drow Ranger
- S: Lifestealer, Faceless Void, Ursa, Anti-Mage
- A: Phantom Lancer, Bloodseeker, Monkey King
- B: Clinkz, Chaos Knight, Medusa, Templar Assassin
- C: Weaver, Luna
- F: Slark
Spectre
Spectre was one of the best Dota 2 heroes in the meta before the Spring Forward update. The hero became a hot pick in both pro and pub games, so we weren’t surprised that the 7.39 Dota 2 patch nerfed the hero.
Despite the changes, Spectre continues to be one of the most dominant carries in Dota 2. At the time of writing, Spectre’s win rate is 53%, making it one of the most successful heroes in the game.
The reason why Spectre is so strong is because of the hero’s ability to kill pretty much anyone on the map. It’s safe to say this mysterious creature is one of the best pub stompers because he can single-handedly carry the team to victory.
Considering how the current meta is going, we expect Spectre to remain one of the most successful heroes.
Wraith King

The next name on our Dota 2 Patch 7.39b safe lane hero tier list is Wraith King. Like Specter, WK has been a part of the meta for some time now. In fact, he continues to be the most successful hero in Dota 2 in terms of win rate (<56%). Considering his success in the previous meta, fans weren’t surprised that Valve decided to nerf him.
Speaking of nerfs, WK’s Vampirit Aura, Reincarnation, and Bone Guard received a nerf, and we expected the hero to slowly fade off the meta. However, this was not the case because WK continues to be a solid pick even after the 7.39b Dota 2 patch.
What’s really surprising is that his win rate has not moved at all in the last week. Despite these nerfs, he remains a solid pick across all skill brackets. It will be interesting to see if Valve will nerf him even more in the next update (most likely the 7.39c update).
Juggernaut
It’s safe to say that Juggernaut is the definition of a safe lane carry. He is one of those heroes who usually work well in every meta, especially in PUB games.
Juggernaut did not get that many changes like some of the other heroes on the list. In fact, if we look at the changelog, we’ll see that Blade Fury, his main ability, was the only thing that changed. Following the new patch, it does 170 damage per second rather than 55 per tick.
At the time of writing, Juggernaut has close to a 53% win rate and over a 17% pick rate. Like some of the other names on the list, Jugg is famous for his fast farming speed and the fact that he works in all stages of the game. Unlike other hard carries, Juggernaut can be effective in the early, mid, and late game.
Drow Ranger
The last name we wish to add to our Dota 2 patch 7.39b Safe Lane hero tier list is Drow Ranger. She is one of those picks that is on and off in the meta, but after checking her stats and analyzing her playstyle, we can conclude she is a solid pick.
Currently, Drow Ranger’s win rate is over 51.50%, which puts her in the top echelon. The hero is indeed slow at first and easy to kill, but once she snowballs, she becomes extremely hard to deal with.
Drow Ranger is also a solid pick when you need someone who can push fast. In most cases, she is paired with an aggressive mid-laner who is also good at snowballing. Once these two heroes get a head start, they should be able to win pretty fast.
Honorable Mentions
Alongside these heroes, we want to pay special attention to Lifestealer and Ursa. The latter is in a slightly better position because Ursa received a small buff in the 7.39 Dota 2 patch. LS, on the other hand, was nerfed, so the hero requires a bit more timing and careful analysis before picking.
Conclusion
Picking the ultimate carry while playing on Dota 2 patch 7.39b is very important if you want to win. Considering that the offlaners are in a really good position now, it’s essential to analyze the game and get the most appropriate option. We hope that some of the names listed here will help you reach the MMR you desire.
