DreamLeague Season 25 was among the most anticipated tournaments in early 2025 and for a very good reason. The event was amazing to watch, and in the end, Team Spirit and Tundra Esports made it to the Grand Final. Instead of seeing a winner, however, the match was postponed due to DDOS attacks.
DreamLeague Season 25 Grand Final DDOS Attack
DDOS attacks have always been a part of Esports, especially in the early days. Most people probably thought there was no way for such a thing to occur in 2025, but they were wrong. Prior to Game 4 of the Team Spirit vs Tundra Esports Grand Final, a huge DDOS attack changed everything.
Players had problems launching Dota 2 and could not enter the game’s lobby either. This lasted for a long time because ESL (the tournament’s organizer) did everything it could to resolve the issue. Sadly, things did not work, so the organizer was forced to postpone game 4 to March 4.
According to ESL, the decision followed “severe technical issues” that prevented the organization from proceeding with the DreamLeague Season 25 final.
The Focus of the Attack
What’s interesting is that ESL claims the focus of the DDOS attack was Team Spirit. It seems like Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov and Denis “Larl” Sigitov were the two players that were “compromized”.
Based on Collapse’s story, he received many party invites on Steam. The game kept crashing because there were more than 100 invites every second. The same happened with Larl.
Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov did not have the same problem at first, but he also slowly started getting DDOSed. This was the last nail in the coffin for ESL, who waited more than 4 hours to find a way to deal with the problem. Sadly, this did not happen, so the company decided to postpone the final.
It’s interesting to know why Spirit’s players were the only ones attacked. Some people believe there’s no big reason behind it, whereas others think they may have been involved in betting scandals. An investigation will be conducted into why these players were targeted and where the attack came from.
Speaking of DDOS attacks, those things were extremely popular before, but this isn’t the case nowadays. Most event organizers have excellent security features that prevent hackers from doing those things. Unfortunately, it seems like ESL is not among them.
The Final Itself
Prior to the incident, Team Spirit and Tundra Esports put up an amazing fight for fans. Spirit took game one but failed to secure the second map, resulting in Game 3. The latter was more than 66 minutes long, and in the end, Spirit won.
We really hope that there won’t be any problems on March 4 because everyone is interested in watching these two teams in action. Valve has not said anything about the DDOS attacks yet, which is interesting because the mass-invite issue has been around for years.
The only bad news about the delay is that it killed the momentum that both teams had. This is especially true for Team Spirit, who won an amazing 1+ hour long game where Tundra used some of their best heroes.
