EA Considering Adding Subscription to Apex Legends

In a new survey that was sent to several Apex Legends players, participants were asked if they would be interested in a “monthly subscription” that would reward subscribers with a monthly amount of in-game currency, rewards, and battle pass levels.

Such a move has been met with mixed reactions, as players have long grown tired of the subscriptions already present in almost every service and game. Given the recent financial changes that EA has been discussing, the company is looking for new ways to increase revenue from Apex Legends. However, many gamers need help finding out if a paid subscription with the monetization system already in place is the most appealing.

Fan dissatisfaction with Apex Legends’ current problems also exacerbates the situation. Recent reviews on Steam are predominantly negative, with players complaining about weak anti-cheat, constant technical issues, and random bans. These problems are especially palpable for Steam Deck users, who have rendered the game nearly unusable due to the anti-cheat system.

A similar subscription is implemented in another Battle Royale, Fortnite. For $10 a month, players get special skins, in-game currency, and Battle Pass levels.

The subscription survey was announced shortly after news of Apex Legends’ problems surfaced. Electronic Arts admitted that the game was not meeting revenue and audience targets. You can find information about EA’s report in the article Electronic Arts Reported For The Second Quarter of Fiscal 2024.

At the time of writing, EA has yet to officially announce a monthly subscription for Apex Legends; however, the survey shows that they are at least considering it.

Meanwhile, the player online graph clearly shows that with the latest update, online first went up to 225k and then started to decline again.

However, whether EA will be able to retain its player base with Apex Legends remains to be seen. For those who stay, the strategy may be to squeeze more money out of them before the number of players dwindles even further.

In the meantime, a new bug was recently discovered in the game.

a workaround fix for this is to change the game resolution, until the issue is addressed. pic.twitter.com/YY23GnOYmU
