After months of rumors and speculation, the re-release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion isn’t just a fan’s dream – it’s become a reality. For the first time, we got to look at an updated version of the iconic RPG thanks to a leak from the developer studio itself.
Fans on Reddit have been poking around the Virtuos website and have uncovered several images that appear to be used shortly after the game’s announcement. They include screenshots of the game and comparison images showing this new version of Oblivion compared to Bethesda’s 2006 original.
Virtuos removed the images without any comment (and probably their entire site, as it remained largely inaccessible for a day).
Screenshots confirm that the Virtuos team is indeed developing the project, named The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. All available files are collected on imgur.

The leak happened from Virtuos’s site. In the screenshots, you can see a better-looking Cyrodiil, updated models of buildings, and a couple of shots with living creatures. Alas, for now, the materials pulled from the Virtuos website code are the only available content on the Oblivion remaster.
The Oblivion remake leaked in 2023 when Microsoft documents were released as part of a court case to buy Activision. It was then supposed to happen in fiscal year 2022, but obviously, that didn’t happen. It hasn’t been officially announced since.
What Could the Oblivion Remaster Offer Beyond Graphics?
Given Bethesda’s track record of enhancing its remasters, the Oblivion remaster is likely to include more than just visual upgrades. It’s reasonable to anticipate that the iconic DLCs, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles, will be bundled as standard, following the precedent set by Skyrim Special Edition.
Bethesda’s use of the Creation Club for Skyrim and Fallout 4 suggests the potential for new content, such as additional quests, gear, or quality-of-life improvements like refined spellcrafting mechanics. While the leaked screenshots highlight a visually revitalized Cyrodiil, Bethesda’s history hints at a comprehensive package that could elevate the remaster’s appeal for both returning fans and newcomers.
There have been no official statements from Bethesda or Virtuos yet, but now there’s no doubt: a return to Cyrodiil is only a matter of time.
