Magneto has quickly become one of the most picked heroes of high level and professional play in Marvel Rivals, and in this guide, you can find everything you’ll need for the Master of Metal.
Marvel Rivals launched at the beginning of December but already has a huge selection of heroes – and villains to choose from. One of the most iconic antagonists (or anti-heroes in certain runs) is Magneto, the mutant with the ability to control magnetic fields, and the current leader of Krakoa, the island of those with the X-gene.
He is also one of the most sought-after tanks in Marvel Rivals, and from this guide, you’ll learn everything you’ll need to in order to bring out the best of the King of Mutants.

Marvel Rivals Magneto Abilities
Passive – Magnetic Descent
Magneto’s passive is a bit simpler than Thor’s, for example, as it just lets him soar through the air instead of falling to the ground. With this, you can hit more enemies from an elevated position or can get into spots for ambushes.
Primary – Iron Volley
The primary attack of Magneto is a projectile which deals heavy damage when hitting an enemy, but if you miss, it also damages opponents in an AoE. The tradeoff is that is has a relatively low fire rate, and you will have to land your shots if you want to kill your opponents. The Volley also has short range – think of Groot’s basic attacks.
Secondary – Mag-Cannon
While his primary doesn’t have as big of a range, Magneto’s secondary fire makes up for it. Mag-Cannon shoots a projectile that deals damage according to the stacks it has. These stacks are shown on Magneto’s back as rings of metal, as well as on the UI as arrows. If you hit an enemy with a max-stack Cannon, the ability also knocks back as well as dealing damage.
First Ability – Metal Bulwark
Magneto shields an ally, protecting them from damage for a short period of time. If the opponents deal damage to the shield, Magneto’s Mag-Cannon charges also refill faster.
Second Ability – Iron Bulwark
Iron Bulwark is the same ability as Metal Bulwark, but it shields Magneto instead of his allies. Taking damage while Iron Bulwark is active also refreshes Mag-Cannon stacks. The two Bulwark abilities also share a cooldown.
Third Ability – Metallic Curtain
Magneto’s third ability lets him put up a shield akin to Doctor Strange and Captain America that blocks incoming projectiles from a direction. However, it has a key difference from the other two shield abilities: it doesn’t have a regenerating health pool but a separate cooldown, so the Master of Metal can pull his wall up full HP every time he has it off cooldown.
Ultimate – Meteor M
With his ultimate ability, Magneto throws a literal meteor on his enemies, dealing heavy damage in an area. The magnetic force around the orb also drags in projectiles during the windup, increasing the damage of the impact. This can be used to soak up other projectile-based ultimates as well, countering a plethora of heroes.
Marvel Rivals Magneto Team-Ups
Magneto only has one Team-Up so far. He can work together with his daughter, Wanda Maximoff or the Scarlet Witch. When both heroes are picked together, Magneto gains access to a new ability called Metallic Fusion. Activating this skill empowers the melee attack of Magneto, giving him a chain instead of a single strike with his Iron Greatsword. The sword also launches fast moving projectiles, turning Magneto into an offensive menace.
Marvel Rivals Magneto How to Play
Magneto is mostly focused on defense by himself. The most important part of Magneto is to protect diving Duelists or support that get jumped in his backline with Metal Bulwark, peeling for his squishies.
Another key role Magneto fills in matches is blocking key abilities from enemies. Meteor M can come in clutch if you use it reactively for skills like Hela’s ultimate or the opposing Magneto’s Meteor. However, the most valuable skill of Magneto in this regard is Metallic Curtain, which can block the highest burst damage abilities in Marvel Rivals – don’t be afraid to stand in the way of shots to protect your teammates!
While his health is not that high compared to other Vanguards, Magneto can be surprisingly tanky thanks to Iron Bulwark. Jumping into the fray can be beneficial as you can soak aggro as well as damage with your shield.
While having mostly defensive abilities, Magneto can also easily kill enemy heroes. Landing his Iron Volley deals heavy damage on squishier targets, and Mag-Cannon can be almost spammed, even if the damage is less than if you’d wait for the stacks to recharge. You can also shield your allies from quite far away, meaning that you can try and get angles on the opponents backline and still protect your own.
Magneto is one of the heroes of Marvel Rivals that becomes significantly better with his Team-Up. His biggest weakness is range as his primary fire can be hard to land and some heroes can just deal damage from further away, but Metallic Fusion eliminates that problem. It’s an ability with very high DPS and good range, as well as boosting Magneto’s melee prowess thanks to the fact that you get a less awkward melee attack.
Magneto is one of the highest pickrate characters in the professional play of Marvel Rivals. With his ability to mitigate damage in more ways than one and break the tempo of some diving character, he provides great defensive and offensive value and is worthy to pick up and learn.
