Just a few days before 2026, G2 announced it is dissolving G2 Hel, the organization’s female League of Legends team. Even though the year was relatively successful for the team, G2 decided to move on.
G2 Hel Disbanded
G2 decided to announce G2 Hel’s disbandment by releasing a video that highlighted the team’s achievements so far. What’s interesting is that we got no clear reason why the disbandment took place. Many people claim it is due to the lack of funding and sponsorship, which could be the case because it is a big issue in women’s esports.
What’s even weirder is that G2 Hel was actually doing okay in the female League of Legends competitive scene. In fact, the team even won the EqualeSports Cup 2025, as well as the Nova Series: Prelude. On top of that, the squad got a 2nd place at the League of Legends Game Changers 2025 Rising event.
G2 Hel’s roster contained some of the biggest names in women’s League of Legends – Maya “Caltys” Henckel and Eve “Colomblbl” Monovisin. Many of the players shared a few words about what happened and have thanked the team and the organization for what has happened to them.
The future for Women’s League of Legends Esports
Considering what has happened to one of the best female League of Legends teams, many people are questioning what’s going to happen with the professional scene. Riot Games has made an effort to boost its popularity, and a lot of organizations are taking part in it. However, it seems like there is still an issue with funding.
We believe 2026 will be a pivotal year for Women’s League of Legends. We will just have to wait and see what’s going to happen. Overall, 2025 has been a successful year for Women’s League of Legends.
