League of Legends has added a new option for women after Riot introduced the Nova Series: Prelude. This is a new Esports competition for women that will begin in France this November. There is a lot to talk about here, so let’s dive in.
Nova Series: Prelude, a New League of Legends Tournament
After the introduction of LoL Game Changers Rising, Riot Games decided to introduce a new LoL event for women. This time, it is organized in conjunction with ZQSD Productions and the event will have a crucial role in building a sustainable, competitive scene for women in League of Legends.
The new Nova Series: Prelude will begin on November 8 and last until December 6. During that time, there will be two online qualifiers. The best-performing teams will advance to the LAN Grand Final, which will take place in Paris, and compete for a € 10,000 prize pool.
The Event Itself
Speaking of the Game Changers event, the new LoL competition will begin shortly after that. The first qualifier will take place between November 8 and 9, followed by the second one, which will occur between November 15 and 16.
The qualifiers will be in a Swiss Stage format and the teams will play in Bo1 matches. Once all games are over, the top 4 squads will advance to the Playoffs. This is where there will be Bo3 single-bracket games.
Once the matches are over, the best two teams from both qualifiers will advance to the Nova Series Playoffs, which will be on November 23. They will lead to the Grand Final in Paris, which will be on December 6 and in the Bo5 format.
An interesting fact about the League of Legends Nova Series: Prelude is that it will be open to anyone over the age of 16. There are no restrictions in terms of residency and those wishing to take part in them have to go to the official tournament page to sign up.
The event’s inaugural season will have Eve “Colomblbl” Monovosin as its ambassador. The player has been a key figure in women’s Esports and has helped G2 Hel become one of the leading powerhouses.
There is no arguing that this LoL tournament will be very important for women’s esports. Considering VALORANT’s Game Changers success, Riot is trying to do the same with League of Legends. Who knows, they might be closer than we think.
