2024 League of Legends World Championship
League of Legends is one of the most popular games in the world, so we are not surprised that Worlds 2024 is first on the list. Besides being the LoL tournament with the largest prize pool, it also became the most-watched Esport event in the world. According to the stats from credible sources, it had more than 6.91M peak viewers, and these stats do not include the viewers in China.
What’s interesting about League of Legends Worlds is that it is almost always the most viewed event. This has been the case in the last 7 years, with just one exception. Considering this has been the case so far, we expect it to be the most viewed Esports event in the future.
M6 World Championship
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has become one of the biggest Esports in the world. Considering the millions of players, it is no surprise that the M6 World Championship is among the most viewed Esports events in 2024.
If we compare the stats, we can see that the M6 World Championship had an average of 4.13M peak viewers. It is true that the difference with World 2024 is pretty big, but the number is very impressive for a mobile game.
Considering the growing popularity of Mobile Legends in many parts of the world, next year’s World Championship should have even more fans. The game is huge in places like SEA, but it’s also gaining traction in other regions.
MPL Indonesia Season 14
The third place on the list of the most viewed Esports events in 2024 is also for Mobile Legends. This time we have the MPL Indonesia Season 14, a tournament that exceeded our expectations.
Although the tournament’s prize pool was “just” around $309K, it was a massive success for the region. Tons of people visited the venues in Jakarta and Bandung, and millions watched them online. Speaking of the devil, the stats reveal that close to 4 Million people watched some of the best Mobile Legends players.
A quick comparison between the last tournament and the one from early 2024 reveals that the latter was more popular. We can only imagine what it will be like in 2025, so definitely make sure to follow us for more information.
As for MPL Indonesia Season 14 itself, the event had all of the best teams and players. In the end, we had the chance to watch the Grand Final between Team Liquid and RRQ Hoshi. After an epic battle, Liquid was victorious and won the competition.
Mid-Season Invitational 2024
Although Mid-Season Invitational 2024 wasn’t able to break the Worlds 2024 record, it became one of LoL’s most successful tournaments of the year. The statistics for this competition reveal that it had around 2.8M peak viewers.
If we compare this year’s Mid-Season Invitational 2024 to other MSI events, we can see that this one had way more views. It seems like most League of Legends tournaments are going up in popularity, and this one is no exception.
One of the most viewed Esports events in 2024 took place in Chengdu, China. 12 of the best League of Legends teams had a fierce battle for $250,000 and that priceless Worlds qualification spot. As expected, the participants gave everything they got, but in the end, Gen.G Esports was above the rest. The squad defeated Bilibili Gaming in the final and got that spot for LoL’s biggest event of the year.
LCK Spring 2024
League of Legends is on fire because another one of its events found its way on the list of the most viewed Esports events in 2024. The event was held in South Korea, and fans were expecting another dominant victory for T1. However, this was not the case because Faker and the rest lost the clash.
The loss definitely disappointed some of their fans, but it’s safe to say that it boosted LCK Spring 2024’s popularity. If we focus on the event’s stats, we can see that it secured very close to 2.65M peak viewers.
In terms of what happened at the event, T1 was unable to take down Gen.G Esports. The latter had an excellent year in League of Legends but was unable to win the biggest event of all – Worlds 2024.
EWC X MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024
The last of the most viewed Esports events in 2024 that we want ot discuss is EWC X MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024. Unsurprisingly, one of the biggest Mobile Legends games was also among the most popular ones, with close to 2.38M peak viewers. This makes it more popular than all of the Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2 events that took place in 2024.
One of the reasons why so many people tuned in to watch the competition was because of the prize pool. With more than $3,050,000 on the line, this became one of the events with the highest prize pools of 2024.
Taking place in Riyadh, the teams did everything possible to win. In the end, the Grand Final was between Selangor Red Giants and Falcon AP. Bren. After a fierce battle, Selangor Red Giants won the competition.
Closing thoughts
As we have seen, League of Legends and Mobile Legends dominated the 2024 Esports scene in terms of popularity. Although Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2 are leading the chart in terms of prize money, their tournaments weren’t as big as those here.
We will have to wait and see if 2025 will yield the same results. Who knows, some of the other Esports may suddenly become much more popular.
