According to sources with knowledge of the situation, BLIX understands that German organization G2 Esports has reached a verbal agreement to sign multiple members of The Guard’s former lineup. According to these sources, G2 are targeting at least three players in order to lay claim to The Guard’s VCT Ascension spot.
The news comes after The Guard and their former lineup were controversially denied a spot in VCT Americas due to The Guard organization not meeting Riot’s Team Participation Guidelines.
While joining G2 may offer a solution to the impasse for the former The Guard players, the same sources cannot confirm that Riot has offered their approval of G2 Esports joining VCT Americas 2024.
For context, G2 Esports was reportedly a top contender and likely candidate to become one of the ten selected franchise teams in the Americas, however after it’s former CEO and founder, Carlos “ocelote” RodrÃguez became embroiled in a PR nightmare involving Andrew Tate, the organization were passed over for the past.
If approved and the verbal agreement that G2 has with The Guard players is formalized, G2 Esports could return to compete in Valorant’s top competition next 2024.
