beastcoast: The International 12 Team Overview

It seems like The International 12 will be the best TI for the South American Dota 2 scene. Aside from Evil Geniuses, Thunder Awaken and Keyd Stars, beastcoast will do everything possible to represent its region. Even though it will be tough for the squad to win the tournament, we expect many exciting results.

beastcoast has always been one of the fan-favorite Dota 2 teams because of its playstyle. Although the squad underwent a significant roster change last year, it kept its solid results. In fact, beastcoast even exceeded expectations a couple of times following its bad results in some tournaments.

Considering the squad will have to go up against Tundra Esports and many other world-class teams, we expect it to give everything it has. TI is just a few weeks from now, so let’s learn more about beastcoast and what happened with the squad before the beginning of Dota 2’s biggest event.

    beastcoast overview

As mentioned above, everyone can agree that beastcoast is one of the leading South American Dota 2 teams. The organization has always been at the forefront of Dota 2 in the continent. However, many may need to realize that beastcoast is a North American organization focusing on this region.

An interesting fact about BC is that the squad had the longest-lasting Dota 2 team roster (from July 2019 until November 2022). However, after the arrival of Evil Geniuses to South America, some of beastcoast’s players decided to move to the newly-relocated organization. beastcoast’s current squad is as follows:

    • David “Parker” Nicho Flores
    • Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera
    • Rafael “Sacred” Yonatan
    • Elvis “Scofield” Peña
    • Steven “StingeR” Vargas

Considering that three of BC’s current roster have been a part of the team since 2019, it’s no surprise they can play really well together. The squad has yet to win a big tournament in Dota 2, but even if it doesn’t lift the Aegis, we wouldn’t be surprised if beastcoast secures a Top 8 placement.

    beastcoast’s results in 2023

Like all other top-tier Dota 2 teams worldwide, beastcoast participated in every big tournament.

Although the squad couldn’t always meet the expectations, it achieved good results that deserved more attention. Consequently, we will review each event it was a part of and look at what happened.

    The Lima Major 2023

The first tournament of 2023 that beastcoast played at was The Lima Major 2023. People had high hopes for the squad’s performance because this was the first big event in South America. Sadly, beastcoast did not garner a slot for the Upper Bracket after the Group Stage and lost to Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket. Sadly, this eliminated the squad from the tournament.

    DreamLeague Season 19

DreamLeague Season 19 was definitely better for beastcoast because the South American squad finished 3rd in Group B. Players had high hopes for this event because BC got to play in the Second Group Stage, but things did not end well. After losing 5 matches, beastcoast finished 6th, which means it couldn’t secure a slot for the Playoffs.

    ESL One Berlin Major 2023

Sadly, beastcoast failed to impress its fans during the ESL One Berlin Major 2023. The team tried to step up its game and reach the Playoffs, but it failed. Following all matches in Group B, beastcoast finished with 1 win, 3 draws and 4 losses, which wasn’t enough to be out of the bottom 3.

    DreamLeague Season 20

Regarding the next season of DreamLeague, beastcoast needed help to achieve its goal. The squad started with a win in Group A, but this was the only win it could get. In the end, BC got 5 draws and 1 loss, which meant it finished 5th, just below the top 4 that got the slot for the event’s next stage.

    Berlin Major 2023

The Berlin Major 2023 was beastcoast’s best tournament so far. Even though the squad’s previous results weren’t good, beastcoast finished second in Group A with 2 victories and 6 draws, securing a slot for the Upper Bracket. The bad news was that BC had to face Gaimin Gladiators, and sadly, they couldn’t defeat the WEU squad.

After dropping to the Lower Bracket, beastcoast defeated Shopify Rebellion and secured the chance to go up against 9Panads. Despite winning the first map, beastcoast lost the match.

    Riyadh Masters 2023

The event with the biggest Dota 2 prize pool for 2023 (so far) could have been better for beastcoast. The latter finished last in Group B and had to play in the Decider against TSM. Even though it was the favorite, Elvis “Scofield” Peña failed to win and was eliminated.

    BetBoom Dacha

This invite-only Dota 2 tournament included a few big names, including beastcoast. Even though most people did not expect the team to perform well, it survived the Group Stage and defeated Evil Geniuses in the Lower Bracket. Sadly, the squad couldn’t do the same against TSM and lost the tournament.

    Beastcoast at The International 12

Judging by beastcoast’s results so far, it’s safe to say that the team has potential, but it has problems against some of the best in the world. The fact that BC’s players have been together for an extended term gives the squad a slight advantage because it has more experience. However, it will be difficult for BC to defeat some of the best units in Western and Eastern Europe.

We expect the South American powerhouse to advance its game and show its capabilities. We will follow everything at The International 12, so look for our daily predictions and load of other articles. You can find detailed reviews of the other teams at TI 12 by checking our Dota 2 section.
