Dota 2 Frostivus
On the announcement page, Valve began discussing 2024 and how successful it was for Dota 2 and the community. After highlighting some of the things that happened, it became clear that Dota 2 Frostivus 2024 is back. Players will have access to it from December 19 until January 15, 2025.
Similar to the event that took place last year, people in the Dota 2 community will have access to a Dota 2 Frostivus gift. What’s interesting is that every hero will begin the game by wearing a new Frostivus hat. Instead of just being a “fashion statement”, however, it is a trophy case.
Frostivus 2024 will allow players to steal hats from their enemies and receive gifts in the form of hats from their allies. This will be possible thanks to a new ability called Spirit of Frostivus. Stealing the hats will be possible after killing heroes, destroying Tormentors, and killing Roshan.
What’s new is that you can put on every hat you steal and wear it on top of each other. You should be able to see all of that on the post-game MVP screen.
Frostivus 2024 Story
Besides the Dota 2 Frostivus treasure and hats, it’s also interesting to learn more about the event’s story. According to Valve, there was a very long legendarium called The Hatmarillion that they gave people access to. However, it seems like it was too long, so the company came up with a “kid’s book version” of it that is just 10 pages long. People who want to read it can do that as soon as they open the Dota 2 client.
Frostivus Forge
Another new feature in Dota 2 Frostivus 2024 is the Frostivus Forge. This will allow you to craft rewards by collecting the “chemical components.” The latter comes in the form of different tasks that you need to do while playing.
Although we don’t know all of the challenges, Valve mentioned that there will be things, such as stealing a hat, high-fiving an enemy, snowballing someone, and more. What’s interesting is that each Frostivus 2024 item you want to craft will have a different recipe. It will also be possible to unlock higher tiers, but only after you complete all lower-tier rewards.
Dota 2 players will also have access to the following:
- Seasonal Chat Wheels
- Tormentor that plays music
- A new courier
Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard
Speaking of the Dota 2 Frostivus 2024 rewards, we need to mention the Winter 2024 heroes’ hoard. This is a treasure box that will contain 17 different item sets for a variety of heroes. Additionally, Valve will give us access to immortal items, taunts, a pet wolf, and Windranger’s Arcana. You can get this chest from the Crownfall store and use your Crownfall coins.
The Ban Wave
The next important aspect we need to cover about the Dota 2 Frostivus 2024 update is the end-of-the-year Ban Wave. According to Valve, the company has spend a lot of time trying to find smurfs and game abusers, and it finally has the needed results.
Normally, the company bans people behind the scenes, but this time, it decided to reveal what’s going on. According to the numbers, a total of 65 594 smurf accounts receive some kind of penalty. On top of that, Valve “dropped the hammer” on many High-MMR griefers because these players ruined the game, exploited bugs, and more.

The End-of-year Sale
The last important aspect we want to include in the 2024 Frostivus update is the end-of-year sale. We will have our exclusive winter sale on the Crownfall content from December 19 until January 3.
Players will have access to a wide array of options, such as the:

- Skywrath sets from Crownfall Treasures I, II, and III.
- Vengeful Spirit and Skywrath Mage Arcanas
The good news is that people who have Crownfall coins will be able to use them to get some discounts.
