BLAST has become one of the world’s most prominent Dota 2 tournament organizers. The company behind BLAST Slam 2 changed the event format, so let’s dive in and see what’s new.
BLAST Slam Changes
If we look at some of the hottest Dota 2 tournaments, we can see that BLAST Slam IV will take place this November (7-9) in Singapore. It will run for two weeks and have an online and LAN stage.
The first week of the competition will feature 12 teams playing online. We also have changes to the Group Stage format because it will run from Tuesday to Saturday. Once the groups are over, the top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals of the LAN event, whereas those who finish between 3rd and 8th place will go to the Play-In Stage.
Those who are not that lucky and finish between 9th and 12th place must compete in the deadly Last-Chance Playoff. This is where only two of the three teams will earn a place in the LAN competition, which means one will be eliminated.
The tournament’s second week will be played in LAN and will have a live audience.

Qualifiers
Before having the chance to play in the actual event, some teams will have to go through the qualifiers. According to the information, there will be two open qualifiers for Southeast Asia, Europe, and China. The finalists from each of these regions will earn a slot for the Closed Qualifiers, where we will see 4 invited teams
Once the Closed Qualifiers are over, the winners in China and SEA will secure a slot for the BLAST tournaments. Interestingly, both finalists from Western Europe will also get the chance to play at the event.
