    Counter-Strike 2’s Missing Features: What’s Lacking from CS:GO’s Successor

It has been approximately two months since Counter-Strike 2 was officially released, and we’™re still waiting for the re-introduction of some key features from CS:GO. Watching the clock feels like sitting on pins and needles for a lot of players, considering the game continues to lose players with each passing day.

Though the base game has drastically improved, we can’™t overlook the fact that it’™s plagued with cheaters. You’™d think after a decade of having the same complaints, a new chapter would be the salvation for all players.

However, reality bites and a functional anti-cheat still feels like a pipe dream.

As CS2 continues to take punches left and right, what are some of the CS:GO features that could give the game a breath of fresh air and help get its player base back?

    Achievements

If you roll back the tape to the early days of Global Offensive, players casually unlocked the game’™s achievements and, in fact, made them grind for a reason.

Though some were snakes in the grass and cheated their way into getting them, the majority found pleasure in doing it.

Upon CS2’s launch, the existing achievements were removed. As of now, the only achievement available is “A New Beginning,” and it’™s attainable by playing in any game mode.

Introducing new achievements in CS2 could add excitement for players, giving them additional goals to strive for in the game.

There is only one Achievement in Counter-Strike: 2

    Left-handed viewmodel

A moment of silence goes to all left-handed players.

Though most FPS games have the right-hand view model by default, CS:GO had the option to play with the left-hand instead. With many players getting used to it over the years, it became a primary demand from the community. However, Valve has turned a blind eye, forcing players to play with the default view model.

    Bob effect

If your gun seems to move too much while walking or strafing, it’s called weapon swaying or ‘œbob,’ a long-standing feature in Counter-Strike.

In CS:GO, players could fix this with the ‘œcl_bob’ console command, but with CS2 and the changes to console commands, there’s currently no way to address the weapon bob effect.

    Wingman maps

Valve has officially reintroduced the Wingman game mode from CS:GO, offering the same fast-paced two vs. two experience. However, the mode lacks a diverse map pool and has changed with Counter-Strike 2, to offer only four maps.

When Valve will add new maps is uncertain, but it’™s an update that will get many players excited and spend more time in-game.

    Coaching Slots

    Does Valve hate coaches?

Not long before the BLAST.tv Paris Major, Valve decided to cut costs related to supporting teams in the Major by excluding coaches from the list of those receiving financial assistance.

Luckily, the tournament organizer, BLAST, agreed to cover coaches’ expenses ahead of the event after heavy criticism from the community.

In the meantime, coaches follow their team’s matches on a private stream for online tournaments.

While Valve tends to keep it on the hush, you shouldn’™t lose hope yet! Since the official release, they’™ve re-introduced many features such as the net_graph command, demo viewer and even community maps as of lately.

As mentioned in their recent interview with pcgamer.com, the developers shifted their focus towards having a solid base game before adding the final choice-based touches. So, just sit tight, and it will eventually come!

Valve to pcgamer: ‘œThat being said, all game modes, regardless of their rules, fundamentally depend on solid core gameplay. So in the short term, we have been keeping our development focused on the spaces where players spend the overwhelming amount of their collective time’.
