Riot Games and the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) have revealed new details about the League of Legends Worlds 2027 tournament, including its dates, host country, and potential format. According to the announcement, the LoL World Championship 2027 will take place in South Korea from October 15 to November 14, marking another major international esports event hosted in the region.

KeSPA also confirmed plans for a municipal bidding process to select venues for the knockout stage and the Grand Final, while the tournament is expected to feature 18 teams competing through a Play-In stage, Swiss Stage, and playoffs.

According to the information we have, South Korea will welcome the tournament and it will take place between October 15 and November 14, 2027. KeSPA will even host a bidding process for local municipalities to host the Knockout stage of the competition. Keep in mind that this will also include the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the Grand Finals.

Based on that preliminary notice, the proposed format will feature 18 teams. We will most likely see a Play-in phase, as well as a Swiss Stage, to determine the playoff contenders. Of course, we will have to wait for Riot Games to see if it will accept these format adjustments.

When it comes to the specific venue’s requirements, KeSPA demands that each stadium has between 5000 and 8000 spectators for the semifinals and quarterfinals. When it comes to the Grand Final, it needs to have a minimum of 10,000 attendees. It will be interesting to see who wins the bidding, as local authorities must submit their applications by April 5, 2026.

What We Know About the Worlds 2026 Tournament

In early 2025, Riot Games officially announced that South Korea would host the 2027 event as part of their detailed season roadmap. Prior to this recent update from KeSPA, details about the tournament were mostly confined to its location. The 2027 championship will be a significant return of the prestigious international event to one of the most influential regions in global esports.

Before that, though, we will have to watch the upcoming Worlds 2026. This year’s competition will be in the USA, and Allen, Texas, will host the Play-In, Swiss Stage, and the majority of the Knockout Stage games. As for the finals, they will be in New York.

We are just a few days away from the First Stand 2026 competition, which begins on March 16. It will be one of the most anticipated LoL tournaments so far, so make sure to follow us for more details.
