Day 1 Matches Overview
FaZe vs. FURIA
FaZe vs. FURIA – IEM Rio 2024
These two teams hadn’t met since PGL Major Copenhagen, and last time, it was FaZe to win with a 13-7 score in a best-of-one match. Now, FURIA is on their home soil, and it might motivate them to play better and win, this time taking revenge when it matters the most. FaZe has been playing shaky for a long time, but recently, at BLAST, they had a good run until they met Natus Vincere in the Semi-final, which they lost with a 1-2 score.
MOUZ vs. paiN
MOUZ vs. paiN – IEM Rio 2024
These two teams met a month ago at BB Dacha Belgrade, and MOUZ won with a 2-1 score. paiN’srecent results, which were against a team from their own region, don’t look good. MOUZ’s last matches at ESL Pro League Season 20 looked like they lost some consistency, and this tournament might be their time to get back to the top.
Natus Vincere vs. Imperial
Natus Vincere vs. Imperial – IEM Rio 2024
The best team in the world, Natus Vincere, is against Brazilian team Imperial, who will be motivated to play on their home soil. Natus Vincere has been in insane shape for a long time, and the only team they lost to recently was G2 in the latest tournament, BLAST, in the Grand Final. Other than that, nobody seems to be able to stop them before, and we will have to see if G2 broke them or if Natus Vincere will keep stomping every team they play against.
Liquid vs. Complexity
Liquid vs. Complexity – IEM Rio 2024
Two North American teams against each other at the opening match of IEM Rio 2024.These two teams seem to meet each other at every international tournament they play. Last time they met at ESL Pro League Season 20, it was Liquid to win with a 2-0 score. Overall, Liquid seems to be a better team, and Complexity seems to be a comfortable team to play against for Liquid.
Vitality vs. 9z
Vitality vs. 9z – IEM Rio 2024
The number 3 team in the world, Vitality, is against South American team 9z. These two teams met each other in May at IEM Dallas 2024, and Vitality won with a 2-0 score, but both maps were close, and it could go the other way around. Since then, Vitality has become much better as a team, and we will have to see if 9z will be able to make it close like last time or even surprise us with a win.
G2 vs. HEROIC
G2 vs. HEROIC – IEM Rio 2024
Number 2 team in the world, G2, and the winner of the latest tournament against HEROIC. HEROIC is yet to show what they’re capable against the best teams and this match up doesn’t look good for them since they played seven maps in total against G2 and were ably to win only one. Recent match they had was at IEM Chengdu 2024and G2 won win a 2-0 score.
Virtus.pro vs. TheMongolZ
Virtus.pro vs. TheMongolZ – IEM Rio 2024
Both of these teams are known for being inconsistent, and it is hard to tell who is the better team at this moment. These two hadn’t met each other since ESL Pro League Season 19, which was in May and the last time Virtus.pro won with a 2-1 score.Other than that, both teams’ results show us that they’ve yet to find their game and make it consistent.
Eternal Fire vs. Astralis
Eternal Fire vs. Astralis – IEM Rio 2024
Astralis lost 7 out of 8 matches they played, and it doesn’tseem to be getting better yet.Eternal Fire, on the other side, surprised everyone by making it to the Grand Final of ESL Pro League Season 20, which they played against Natus Vincere and ended up losing with a 2-3 score in a best-of-five match, but it was a very close one against the best team in the world. We will see if Eternal Fire can keep that form or if it will drop after such a performance at ESL.
