Perfect World has officially announced the rosters of teams invited to major regional ranking events in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Additionally, they have revealed the closed qualifiers associated with these events leading up to the highly anticipated Perfect World Shanghai Major.
The current standings are derived from the Valve Regional Standings as of August 6, which can be accessed here. It’s important to note that these standings are still pending confirmation from the teams themselves.
Perfect World Shanghai Major
In Europe, 16 out of the participating teams, and in the Americas, eight teams received direct invites to the RMRs. Meanwhile, in Asia, three slots were filled by direct invites. The remaining 16 teams from Europe, 8 teams from the Americas, and 5 teams from Asia will be selected through closed qualifiers, starting from August 21.
In several cases, teams were removed from the list. This happened because a team was participating in a different region (for example, Liquid, which could apply to Europe or the Americas), or Valve had ruled against one organization fielding multiple teams across the various qualifiers.
In Europe and the Americas, teams were directly invited based on their standings to participate in the Major qualifying system after open qualifiers were removed in both regions earlier this year. Currently, there is one vacant slot in the NA closed qualifier because there weren’t enough ranked teams in the region.
In the Asian region, open qualifiers were held in each of the five sub-regions to determine four of the eight participating teams in each. However, due to a shortage of ranked teams, the Middle East, China, and the Rest of Asia qualifiers did not have enough teams to receive the full quota of four invites as initially intended.
An outdated Cloud9 roster is listed for the European closed qualifier invites due to the new roster not meeting the ranking requirements. The Russian side may submit four current players and Ilya ‘Perfectoâ ‘ Zalutskiy to keep the core intact, then substitute in the last player from the existing roster before the qualifier starts.
