BLIX.GG sat down and spoke with Martin “stavn” Lund from Heroic after their 2-1 victory over Liquid in the Semi-Finals at BLAST Premier Fall Finals 2022, netting the Danes a spot in the final in the Royal Arena.
BLIX.GG: This was a long series; you won the first map comfortably after cadiaN’s clutch, then it got a bit more complicated. What was the key to winning the series for you guys?
stavn: I think the fact that we like to believe that we can play our own game and think that we can win, you know, there are some times when doing it’s the end of the season and stuff like that you can get a bit tired, but we’re hyped right now. And we’ve been going on a really good streak from the Major. So we’re just really confident, and it was a tough loss on Inferno, but we managed to go out and get some fresh air and focus on the third map, and we played well. So yeah, we are really happy.
BLIX: You mentioned the Major a little bit, where there was, you know, a big crowd. What would you say are the main differences between playing in Rio and playing here in Copenhagen?
stavn: Well, the main, biggest difference is that there are many Danish people here, right? That’s a unique feeling, that you have a whole country behind you, cheering for you. So, that’s a big difference. You can definitely feel that when you play. I want to win as well for the fans. So that’s a good motivator.
BLIX: And in the Final, you have two possible Danes, you have es3tag in NIP, and you have karrigan from FaZe. Do you have any favorites of those you would like to play against? Who will come out as the winner in the other Semi-Final?
stavn: I mean, I would prefer to play against FaZe. It would be a legit win if we win against FaZe; they are the stronger team, and now we lost the previous match in the Group Stage to them, so we want to get our revenge against them. Hopefully, you have the crowd with us again against Kerrigan, so that would be a great match.
BLIX: And this is the first big arena you’re playing in front of your home crowd, in front of your fans, friends, and family. How’s the whole experience been for you so far?
stavn: Very emotional. It’s like a roller coaster, especially on Inferno. We felt like we had the game, and then we were losing a few more rounds after that. And it was a difficult feeling to describe but filled with emotions, of just wanting to win, you know, so yeah, it’s a good experience.
