What is Mastery in The First Descendant
Mastery is an account-wide system that all of your unlocked descendants can use. The Mastery system is built around a separate experience bar that fills up much slower than your average level. You gain Descendant Modules, weapon modules, equipment slots, and other perks as you progress through it.
Currently, the maximum rank you can reach is 30. As you progress through the levels, you will also be able to earn bonuses. The maximum amount of bonuses players get when they reach rank 20.
The primary purpose of increasing your Mastery Rank is to access the Weapon and Descendant Module upgrades. They make it much easier to complete the most difficult tasks.

How to Increase Mastery Rank
The Prime Hands terminal
After completing several missions and accumulating enough experience to increase their skill rank, players must leave their posts and return to Albion. Albion is the central hub in The First Descendant, allowing players to change their weapons and armor builds, their character's appearance, and store essential resources.
This is also an issue that players face, and they don't always realize that they need to move to Albion. Therefore, keep this information in mind.
Location of the Prime Hands terminal
Players can increase their skill rank in The First Descendant by interacting with the Prime Hands terminal. To be more specific, you can find it in the easternmost part of Albion. Before approaching it, open the map and see if the yellow marker is glowing. If yes, it means that you have an available skill upgrade.
When you approach the terminal, click the "Mastery Rank Up" button to start improving. You will see a short cutscene, which you can skip and enjoy a more robust character version.
The Prime Hands terminal
Players wishing to take advantage of the Prime Hands tool for the first time need 1500 experience to reach skill level 2. Players must travel to the next region and complete a few side missions.
Thankfully, online players worldwide will be just as eager to complete these missions, allowing everyone to find a team and quickly destroy enemies to gain experience and resources as rewards.

How to Get Mastery XP
As mentioned, you gain skill experience separately from your character's main level. There are currently only a few ways to do this available in the game:
- Completing missions for the first time
- Leveling up without assigned Socket Types for module slots
You can focus on something other than this particular goal; progressing through the game will already earn enough skill experience.
The fastest way to increase your skill rank is to level up your Descendants and improve your weapon proficiency. While completing missions will provide progression, the best way to level up your descendants and increase your weapon proficiency is through Albion's resource defense missions.
General round weapons, launchers, and some ultimate weapons that can deal with AoE damage are great weapons to use when farming for weapon proficiency. This is because they can clear mobs fast, allowing them to gain more proficiency than other weapons.
Mastery Rank Benefits
At any rank, your main goal is to improve your weapon and Offspring Module. However, the other items you get are also valuable revelations:
- Increased equipment inventory
- More Storage Slots
- Improved Shape Stabilizer Inventory Limit
- Additional Descendant Module Capacity & Slots
- Extra Weapon Module Capacity & Slots
Unlocking these perks can go a long way in helping you start pumping up your new character after you buy/create it.

Manage your modules
Strategically assign Socket Types to your module slots. Leveling up without any Socket Types will help you earn more Mastery XP, so consider doing this when you are close to leveling up.

Experiment with different characters
Since mastery is spread across the entire account, playing different characters can make the game more interesting. Each character has unique abilities that can help you complete missions more efficiently.
