Learning the core League of Legends terms is one of the things that many people don’t think of when they start playing the game. The amount of LoL terminology might be frightening at first, but we at Blix.gg are here to make it easy for you. We are about to show you all of the must-know terms and phrases that will help you when you start playing, so let’s begin.

    League of Legends Terms

    via Riot Games

When talking about the League of Legends terms to know, we will focus on more common ones. They should be enough to get a solid start when you decide to play LoL.

    • Auto Attack – This is a term that you can find across all MOBAs, including LoL. Auto Attack is when your champion automatically attacks a given target after clicking on it.
    • Assassins – One of the League of Legends terms for noobs you should know is Assassin. This is a type of champion that is famous for his burst damage and the ability to run away from a fight or initiate quickly.
    • Backdoor – This is a technique that LoL players use when they attack the enemy team’s Nexus, and that team is focused elsewhere. The Backdoor technique is something that is usually done by sneaking through your opponents.
    • Bomba – Bomba is a term that describes a very flashy play. You can often find the term “wombo combo” and it is present across all MOBAs, including LoL.
    • Boosted/Anima – This LoL slang is used to describe people whose skill level is not high enough for their current rank. Usually, it means that the given player was boosted.
    • CC – CC is among the League of Legends terminology that stands for Crowd Control. This is used when different abilities or effects limit a given player’s actions or movements. In most cases, things like slows, stuns, knock-ups, and so on are all considered CC.
    • Cheese – This term describes strategies in League of Legends that usually focus on the early game. They allow players to surprise their opponents and gain a considerable advantage early on.
    • Counterjungle – As its name implies, this term is used when you want to kill the monsters located in your opponent’s jungle.
    • Countergank – When your opponent wants to gank (try to come and kill you) you, setting a countergank means that you or someone from your team does the same and tries to kill an enemy hero.
    • CS – This is the short version of creep score, and it shows the number of last hits you have.
    • Fed – One of the League of Legends terms slang that you’ll often find is Fed. This is used when a given champion has more gold and items than the rest.
    • Flank – This is when a given champion decides to split for the team and attack the enemy team from the backline or sideline. Keep in mind this term is mostly popular in shooters.
    • Inting or Inter – Among the common League of Legends terms on Reddit isInting or Inter. This is used when someone is intentionally dying to give the enemy team gold and XP advantage. Some people also use it for players who keep dying time and time again (even if they are not “feeding”).
    • KDA – Kda stats for kills/deaths/assists, in other words, these are your stats.
    • Lane – Like other MOBAs, League of Legends has 3 lanes. The term “Lane” is used to describe each one and is usually combined with top, mid, or bot for each lane, respectively.
    • Peel – The League of Legends definition for peel or peeling is when you try to protect a given player. This is usually achieved by using different abilities/effects that will prevent the enemy team from “finishing off” your ally.
    • Recall – This League of Legends jargon is used when a champion uses the ability that will teleport them back to the fountain. Remember that some of the buffs in League of Legends can shorten the recall process. Usually, it is around 8 seconds.
    • Rift Herald – This is a monster that usually spawns inside the Baron Pit after 8 minutes of playing. When you bring it down, you will receive a buff that will allow you to get Herald.
    • Shotcaller – This League of Legends term is used for the in-game leader in a given game.
    • Scaling – Scaling is a term that describes a given champion’s development over time in terms of experience and items. It can also be used to describe the champions’ peak.
    • Splitpush – Splitpush is among the most common League of Legends terms that describe a situation where a champion or champions are pushing a different lane from the one that the enemy team is pushing. It is usually done to distract opponents from advancing or to make them fall back.
    • Summs – All League of Legends champions have two things called Summoner Spells (this is what Summs stands for).
    • Squishy – This term is used for champions who have low health or those who are easy to kill.
    • Trade – This must-know League of Legends term can have many different meanings. It can be used when two champions are trading hits but it can also be used when the two teams trade objectives on the map.
    • Turret – For Dota 2 fans out there, Turrent is essentially League of Legends’s tower.
    • Pink Ward – This is the same as a ward, but it has more HP than it and reveals enemies when placed in a given area.
    • Red Trinket/Blue Trinket – These two things are used for items in LoL that reveal enemies when using them. The Rred Trinket reveals enemies around the ward for a few seconds, whereas the Blue Trinket is used for the Farsight Alteration. The latter grants vision in a small area, and people can place it from a far distance. Remember to check our complete League of Legends warding guide for more information.
    • Zoning – Although this LoL term can have different meanings, most players use it to describe a situation where they push an enemy champion away from something. Usually, zoning is used for the early game when you are preventing someone from securing the last hits.

    Conclusion

There are tons of other League of Legends terms that deserve attention, but we believe these are the most important ones. Once you start playing regularly, you will learn a lot of other terms that can come in handy.
