When Vietnam plays at an international event, they come with a bat, swinging and taking down other teams. Thatâs exactly what Trần “BeanJ” VÄn ChÃnh and other members of Saigon Buffalo came to Mexico to do in Worlds 2022.
They started with two powerful victories but ended 2-3 in their group. Unfortunately, they lost to MAD Lions, which led to their elimination from Play-ins. We spoke with BeanJ after their loss against MAD about the meta, the international fans, and more.
Aykut Sapaz, BLIX.GG: Hello BeanJ, condolences for losing your match against MAD Lions. What are your thoughts on the match that you just came out of?
BeanJ: The recent loss was mostly due to not being able to play the way that we had planned in the first place.
BLIX: Is the change in their plans related to MADâs play style, or did something else go wrong?
BeanJ: Some of the team fights broke out not as we had intended, so we lacked the resources to play into that team fight well.
BLIX: Interesting. How would you compare the feeling of playing on the international stage to playing in your regional league? Do you feel extra pressure, or are there more cheers? How does that feel?
BeanJ: So playing on an international stage differs greatly from playing at home. We feel the fans’ cheering, but once the game has started, we no longer mind them.
BLIX: That is understandable. Weâve seen a lot of high-priority champs like Maokai or Miss Fortune in the Worlds meta. Which champion is the most powerful in the game right now?
BeanJ: I think Maokai is the most special champion in this world. Itâs a very difficult champion to fight against, and itâs really annoying when you have to fight him and contest the objectives.
BLIX: Thank you, thatâs really insightful. Who would you have liked to play against most, as a team or as a jungler?
BeanJ: I really wanted to face DK in the groups because DK has Canyon, and Canyon is, like, my star.
BLIX: Lastly, do you have a message to your fans as a team or BeanJ fans out there?
BeanJ: Thank you for being with us as weâve tried our best to get into play-ins, groups, into quarterfinals.
BLIX: All right, thank you so much for your time.
