When it comes down to real-time strategies, League of Legends is one of the first games that comes to mind. After its release in 2009, LoL slowly but steadily became one of the world’s largest eSports games.
Nowadays, there are thousands of players from all over the globe who focus on it, but it’s no surprise that some countries are more successful than others. The League of Legends team at Blix.gg decided to dive deep and learn more about that, so let’s check some intriguing results.
South Korea
Everyone involved in League of Legends, one way or another, knows that South Korea is in a league of its own. The country is home to some of the world’s best players, such as Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, and is leading the chart in terms of players and winnings.
If we look at the stars from Esports Earnings, South Korea is in the lead with 1038 active professional players. Considering the number 2 on the list and its population (more about China in a second), this number is very impressive. In fact, South Korea has almost 2x the number of active players compared to China.
After examining the League of Legends countries, we can see that professional players in South Korea have earned a total of $39M. Once again, this is almost 2x more than the 2nd place on the list.
Alongside Faker, players like Duke, Bang, Wolf, and Ruler all come from South Korea. It’s safe to say that this is the biggest and most important country in League of Legends.
China
If we check the League of Legends players by country numbers, we will see that China is the 2nd option on our list. With a total of 624 active players, the state is trying to catch up to South Korea, but it does not seem like it will happen anytime soon.
As of early 2025, the Chinese League of Legends players had total winnings of $23.2M. Although this amount is almost two times less than the one in South Korea, it is close to five times more than the one in Taiwan (the next name on the list).
In terms of popular Chinese League of Legends players, Wenbo “JackeyLove” Yu is definitely among the first names that stand out. We can also add the likes of Xiaohu, Meiko, Baolan, Knight, Ning, and more.
Taiwan
Number 3 on our League of Legends countries ranking is for Taiwan. Home to 252 professional League of Legends players, Taiwan is a place where those players have earned $5.64M so far. The number is not as impressive as that of China or South Korea, but Taiwan also has fewer professional players than these two places.
Speaking of the devil, most players are aware of a couple of popular Taiwanese LoL stars, one of whom is Hung “Karsa” Hau-Hsuan. The 27-year-old Jungler is one of the country’s best stars and has a total winnings of $568K during his career. His current team is TALON, and before that, he played for CFO.
Alongside him, we can also include SwordArt, Maple, bebe, Stanley, and others. We believe that Taiwan will have even more top-tier LoL stars in the future because there are many promising players.
United States
If we check the League of Legends players count and stats, we will see that the US is among the top 5. With a total of 588 professional LoL players, the USA is the first big country outside of Asia. Combined, all of these players have won almost $5M.
As for individual stars, the first US player that comes to mind is Yiliang “Peter” “Doublelift. The 31-year-old bot laner was a crucial part of 100 Thieves before he decided to retire a few years ago.
Speaking of retired US LoL players, we also have to add Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi to the list. The 30-year-old played for Clould 9 for several years before deciding to step down from the professional scene.
Denmark
After checking all of the League of Legends players stats, we finally found the first European country on the list. Denmark has always been one of the best countries for eSports, and it seems like the place is also huge in League of Legends. With a total of 277 active players that have won more than $4M so far, Denmark is among the top names on the list.
In terms of the top Danish players, everyone will agree that Rasmus “Caps” Winther is the first name that comes to mind. The Mid/Bot laner has been playing for G2 Esports for almost 5 years now and has proven he is among the best in the world. During those years, the player won many awards, including the MVP of the Year following the LEC Season Finals 2024.
Poland
The second of the League of Legends countries from Europe that players should be aware of is Poland. The latter has 433 active LoL professionals, and combined, these players have earned $2.88M so far. This puts Poland ahead of the likes of Sweden, France, Germany, and more.
As for the LoL’s most popular Polish player, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski is definitely the first name that comes to mind. After playing for the likes of H2K, G2 Esports, and Team Heretics, he is now a part of The Ruddy Sack. He became a part of the latter in early January this year, so we’re yet to see if the team will live up to the expectations.
Germany
The last country that we want to include in this list for League of Legends is Germany. With 569 active players, Germany is leading the chart in Europe in terms of that. However, all of these players have earned $2.6M so far, meaning that it is slightly behind the likes of Poland and Denmark.
Germany’s most popular LoL star is Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik, and he is G2 Esports’s Top laner. The 25-year-old is among the big reasons why people consider G2 Esports as one of the best in Europe.
Closing Thoughts
Outside of the countries mentioned on the list, we can also mention places like France, Vietnam, Canada, Brazil, and more. It’s true that there are very talented individual players from each of these nations, but overall, the Asian region dominates in League of Legends. This is especially true for South Korea, the country with the best LoL players in the world.
