It does this by redirecting the gases in the opposing direction of weapon drift and recoil so that the gas counteracts the action of the weapon. This rare attachment, while of great benefit to DMRs, is of questionable use on the bolt-action rifles, given that the time between shots is sufficient enough for the shooter to readjust aim, but since there are no negative effects there is no net loss to attaching one while looking for other attachments.
