It’s been several days since the Dota 2 Patch 7.39b arrived, and close to 4 weeks since the Spring Forward Update. After covering everything you need to know in the 7.39 and 7.39b updates, it’s time to focus on PUB games.
What you are about to see is a comparison between the most popular and successful options in the Herald and Immortal skill brackets. As you know, these two are the first and last Dota 2 skill brackets, so it’s interesting to see how the meta differs in each one. To give you an accurate overview of what’s going on, we’ll be using DotaBuff’s stats.

Position 5

When it comes to the Dota 2 7.39b hard support heroes, the current meta allows us to test many different heroes. With that said, we can see a clear difference between the hot hard supports in Herald and those in Immortal.
Herald
Starting with the options in the lower-MMR bracket, we can see that Witch Doctor is the most dominating hero. With a 55% win rate and a 20% pick rate, the hero is in a league of his own, and for a good reason.
Number 2 on the list is for Vengeful Spirit (although some of you may say that she is a soft support). Venge’s win rate is also 55%, and her pick rate is 8.81%.
Lastly, at number 3, we have Shadow Shaman with a 52.51% win rate and a 19.51% win rate. He has proven himself as one of the go-to picks not only in Herald but in other skill brackets.
Immortal
On the topic of the other skill bracket, the situation in Immortal is slightly different. The best Dota 2 players in the world favor Vengeful Spirit above the rest, which explains why her win rate is 55.42%, whereas her pick rate is 13.82%. Dazzle is close second with a 54.96% win rate and a 3.56% pick rate, followed by Winter Wyvern.
Dazzle used to be among the best, but his win rate dropped to 54% in 7.39b. As for his pick rate, the hero appears in 5.24% of matches.
Position 4

If we analyse some of the best Dota 2 7.39b soft supports, we will see that people can choose from a wide array of options.
Herald
It’s probably not surprising that Undying is leading the chart as the most successful and most popular hard support in Herald. The hero has a 52.64% win rate and an 11.75% pick rate, making him one of the solid picks in the meta.
The next name on our list is Abaddon. Although he can also be an offlaner, many players rely on him to support their team. His stats are very similar – 52.55% win rate and a 4.78% pick rate.
Last but not least, we have everyone’s favorite – Pudge. Aside from his jaw-dropping 29% pick rate, the hero’s win rate is also impressive – 52.20%.
Immortal
Moving to Immortal, Elder Titan leads as the go-to position 4 hero. ET’s 53.77% win rate is impressive, but the hero only plays in around 2% of matches.
It seems like Undying is a really solid pick to have right now because the hero is also popular here. His win rate is 53.40%, whereas his pick rate is 12.94%.
Lastly, we have Leshrac. Although he can also be a midder, you can often see him in position 4. Lesh’s win rate is 52.55%, whereas his pick rate is 2.56%.
Position 3
Choosing some of the best offlaners in 7.39b can make a huge difference in your overall results. This is true for both Herald and Immortal players, so here’s what people from these two divisions focus on.
Herald
Starting with Heralds, Axe dominates as the most successful offlaner with a 54.66% win rate and a 20.17% pick rate. He is followed closely by Legion Commander, a 53.92% win rate and a 19.17% pick rate. Centaur Warunner is the last name on the list with a 51.65% win rate and a 5.35% pick rate. Keep in mind that Abaddon and Undying can also be played as offlaners, and if that’s the case, they are above Centaur.
Immortal
An interesting fact is that Axe also dominates the Immortal bracket. His 53.72% win rate and 17.93% pick rate make him a solid choice. The same is true for LC, who is also second with a 53.52% win rate and a 14.96% pick rate. Interestingly, Nyx takes the third palace with a 53.25% win rate and a 3.28% pick rate.
Position 2
The mid-lane is among the most important and interesting roles in Dota 2. Needless to say, picking the best mid-laners in 7.39b is a must if you want to win, so let’s check these two Dota 2 leagues.
Herald
Necrophos dominates the Herald bracket with a 54.89% win rate and a 15.23% pick rate. Although he can also be an offlaner or even support, you will mostly find him in the mid lane.
Surprisingly, Meepo is 2nd on the list with a 52.79% win rate. He has a 3.65% pick rate, which is higher than what most people probably thought for this bracket.
Lastly, we have Silencer. Although he can be a support, you can often find him in the mid-lane. His stats are 52.17% win rate and a 11.86% pick rate.
Immortal
If we take a look at the Immortal bracket, we will see that Meepo is in th lead with a 56.02% win rate. The hero’s pick rate is 2.30%, which is probably not a surprise because only a handful of players know how to use him.
The second top-tier midder in 7.39b is Lone Druid. The stats show a 54.17% win rate and a 1.23% pick rate.
Lastly, we have Broodmother, a hero whose win rate is 52.87% and a 2.13% pick rate.
Position 1

The last position we need to talk about here is the carry. Choosing an optimal carry in the 7.39b Dota 2 patch can make a huge difference, even in pubs, so let’s see what the situation is like in Herald and Immortal.
Herald
Wraith King is leading in the Herald bracket with a jaw-dropping 58.75% win rate and an 18.38% pick rate. The hero has been among the most dominant names for a while and continues to dominate in the meta.
Spectre takes the second place with a 54.58% win rate and an 11.76% pick rate. Despite the nerfs, she continues to be a solid choice for many players.
Lastly, we have Anti-Mage with a 52% win rate and a 16.28% pick rate.
Immortal
An interesting fact is that Wraith King is also dominating in the Immortal bracket but his win rate is 53.37% and a 14.20% pick rate.
Ursa takes the silver medal with a 53.26% win rate and a 16.02% pick rate.
Spectre comes third with a 52.54% and a 7.81% pick rate.
Conclusion
Even though the players in the Herald and Immortal brackets have nothing to do with each other, it’s always interesting to see the differences. To be honest, we were surprised that there are a lot of similarities. It seems like everyone has learned how the current meta works and is taking full advantage of it.
It will be interesting to follow the meta and see if there will be any significant changes in the future. For now, we can only see that Immortal players focus more on some of the complex heroes, such as LD and Meepo.
