Cloud9 has secured a spot in the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 by defeating Zero Tenacity in the final of the second European closed qualifier. The intense match ended with a 2-1 scoreline in favor of Cloud9.
The victory comes after a challenging beginning for the mostly Russian team, as they struggled to find their form after assembling following the summer hiatus.
Cloud9 had a rough start, finishing last at the BLAST Fall Groups and the Showdown. However, they’ve recently made a strong comeback by qualifying for the Perfect World Shanghai Major Europe RMR. They secured their spot by achieving impressive wins against Johnny Speeds, Passion UA, and 9 Pandas in the closed qualifier.
Cloud9 has secured their spot as the sixth team to qualify for the upcoming 16-team online event. This event will ultimately lead to a four-team LAN final with a prize pool of $750,000, to be held at a location that has yet to be disclosed.
