IEM Cologne 2026 Stage 1 Teams, Favorites & Underdogs

    CS2 Team GamerLegion

    Main Favorites

Teams such as GamerLegion, BetBoom, and MIBR enter Stage 1 as some of the favorites to qualify for the next stage, having shown strong form in recent events.

MIBR recently reached the semi-finals of the CS Asia Championship 2026, while BetBoom made an impressive run to the IEM Atlanta 2026 semi-finals, including a statement victory over the world’s number one team, Vitality. GamerLegion also enjoyed a deep run at IEM Atlanta 2026, reaching the grand final before falling to Natus Vincere.

Because of these recent performances, all three teams will likely be considered among the strongest contenders in Stage 1.

    Strong Contenders

With eight qualification spots available, teams like HEROIC, Liquid, and B8 should also be considered strong candidates to advance, given their recent results and overall experience compared to several other teams in attendance.

    Dark Horses

The dark horses of the stage 1 could be TYLOO, Lynn Vision, M80, and BIG.

TYLOO and Lynn Vision represent the growing strength of the Asian scene and have historically been capable of upsetting international opponents with their aggressive and unpredictable playstyle. M80 has also shown promising form throughout the year, earning respectable wins against several top-15 European teams.

BIG, meanwhile, brings a veteran roster with valuable experience and confidence after winning HLC Belgrade PRO in April, where they defeated FaZe 2-1 in the grand final.

    Underdogs

The remaining teams enter Stage 1 as underdogs, mainly due to a lack of strong international results in recent months compared to the teams mentioned above. However, tournaments like IEM Cologne have historically delivered unexpected breakout performances, and the Swiss format often creates opportunities for surprise qualification runs.

Even the lower-rated teams will have realistic chances to compete for a Stage 2 spot if they can build momentum early in the tournament.

IEM Cologne 2026 Stage 1 Opening Matches Schedule

    • B8 vs. TYLOO and MIBR vs. THUNDER dOWNUNDER starting at 13:30 CET

What to Expect from IEM Cologne Stage 1

LANXESS Arena – CS2 IEM Cologne Major 2026

Stage 1 of IEM Cologne 2026 promises to be highly competitive despite featuring several teams considered outsiders for the main event. With experienced organizations, rising international squads, and dangerous dark horses all fighting for only eight spots in Stage 2, every match will carry major importance from the very beginning.

While teams like GamerLegion, BetBoom, and MIBR enter the tournament as favorites based on recent results, the unpredictable nature of the Swiss format could easily produce surprises and breakout performances. Whether it’s established contenders proving their consistency or underdogs making unexpected runs, Stage 1 should deliver plenty of exciting Counter-Strike 2 action for fans around the world.
