Dota 2 Player Count Surpasses 600,000 Average Concurrent Players for the First Time Since 2016

We are witnessing something that not a lot of people expected to see – a resurgence within the Dota 2 community. Based on stats from Steam Charts, Dota 2 has achieved a total of 607,930 average players in the last 30 days. This number is truly jaw-dropping, considering the fact that the number was just 393,173 in April this year.

Dota 2 Player Count Hits 600,000+ Average Players in December 2025

December 2025 seems to be the first month since October 2016 where we see over 600,000 ordinary concurrent people playing our favourite game. Yes, there is still time left until December comes to an end, but no one can deny that these numbers are really impressive.

Many people within the Dota 2 community will be more than happy with these numbers and will be excited for 2026. One of the reasons why so many people suddenly started playing the game is probably the collaboration with Monster Hunter from a few weeks ago. Even though the community’s initial reaction was not the best, it seems like people are enjoying the new content, especially the free cosmetic items.

Why Dota 2’s Rising Player Count in 2025 Surprised the Community

While the growing numbers are always a good sign, we can’t hide the fact that some people are confused by them. Sure, the Monster Hunter collab is great, but Dota 2 has not seen a big match in some time now. The current Patch 7.39 has been around since May (albeit receiving different small tweaks), so it’s safe to say people want something new.

What also adds to the surprise is the lack of new heroes. Everyone who’s been playing the game for some time now knows that Valve tries to add at least one new hero every year. However, 2025 has been an exception because we have yet to see a new name in Dota 2. There were some rumours about a new Dota 2 hero called Arjun, but we have not seen him anywhere yet.

What 600k Online Means for Dota 2 in 2026

We at Blix.gg believe that Dota 2 is as good as it has ever been because the game remains one of the most competitive MOBAs around. While we have seen some smaller cosmetic events, such as the Quartero’s Curios and the most recent Monster Hunter collab, the game could use a new patch.

The balance changes have become more infrequent, which a lot of people are not fans of. Considering the fact that the professional scene is booming, we would not be surprised if Valve changes its approach and starts offering more frequent updates.

We really hope that 2026 will be an even better year for Dota 2 and we believe it will be even more successful than 2025. Don’t forget to read about the best Dota 2 moments of 2025 because there are definitely a few things that deserve more attention.
