One question worries many novice players: Do CS2 skins wear out? The short answer is no. CS2 skins do not wear out over time. However, a new player might think that because every skin has one of five types of wear. The Blix team will explain how Float Value, also known as Wear, FV, and float, works.

Types Of Wear
There are five types of skin wear in CS2. Going from best to worst, these are:
- Factory New
- Minimal Wear
- Field-Tested
- Well-Worn
- Battle-Scarred
They are purely cosmetic and cannot, for example, cause weapons to jam. You can read more about each value in our article CS2 Float Check and What is Float in CS2.
Since a skin market exists in CS2, Factory New skins are usually more expensive than Battle Scarred skins. However, some skins, such as Well Worn, may have the same type of wear and tear but will be priced differently. It’s not only about the type but also about the float value of the skin. Let’s understand it in detail.
Float Value
Float determines skin wear. When you unpack a skin from a crate, it is assigned a Float value. The value ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, and depending on your Float, your skin gets its type of wear.
The values for the types of wear are as follows:
- Factory New (0.00-0.07)
- Minimal Wear (0.07-0.15)
- Field-Tested (0.15-0.38)
- Well-Worn (0.38-0.45)
- Battle-Scarred (0.45-1.00)
Float is also why some CS2 skins with the same wear have different monetary values. Always look for the lowest float value when buying a skin, even if it means spending a couple more minutes looking through all of them.
You may find a cheap low-float skin that someone just put on the market without checking. Cheap skins can also be found on the site CS.MONEY, and for free to play with any skin you like without violating Valve’s rules, you can on the servers xplay.gg.

Does Float Change Over Time?
Each skin in CS2 gets its float value when it is created, that is when it is dropped or crafted. You can get new skins from the weekly drop, open a case, or use the Trade Up contract.
In any case, no matter where you get the skin from, its float value will already be assigned to it, and whatever you do in the future, this value will not change. To learn more about getting skins, see How To Get Skins in CS2? A Step-by-Step Guide.
