Vitality has been selected as the third team to participate in the prestigious BLAST Premier World Final. This event, which features a prize pool of $1,000,000, has been a highly anticipated conclusion to the year since its establishment in 2021.
This year, the World Final’s schedule is uncertain due to a conflict with the RMR qualifiers for the Shanghai Major.
The location for the event is yet to be announced following the expiration of BLAST’s deal with Abu Dhabi.
The main objective of the World Final is to assemble the most outstanding teams of the year for an intimate eight-team LAN tournament. BLAST successfully achieves this by extending invitations to the victorious teams of the most prestigious events, including Major winners Natus Vincere, IEM Katowice champions Spirit, and the recently crowned IEM Cologne victors Vitality.
The top two slots are also awarded to the winners of the other BLAST Premier stadium events, including the Spring Final, which was won by Team Spirit, and the Fall Final.
The remaining slots are determined by the BLAST Premier leaderboard, taking into account that if a team such as Spirit wins two events, it would typically earn them an invitation. This method will determine four slots, with FaZe and G2 currently holding the fourth and fifth-place positions after IEM Cologne.
The competition for the final two spots will be fierce, with bothMOUZ and Astralis currently ahead in the rankings. However, there will be ample opportunities to earn ranking points at the upcoming ESL Pro League S20, BLAST Showdown, and BLAST Fall Final events before teams lock in their rosters on October 23.
Valve’s rules regarding partner leagues dictate that 2024 will mark the last occurrence of the World Final in its current format. In its place, BLAST Rivals, an eight-team event held bi-annually, will be introduced. Teams will be invited based on Valve’s World Ranking.
