After waiting several weeks for the Division I matches to end, The Lima Major 2023 is finally upon us. The first Major of the 2023 DPC cycle will take place in Peru and will include all of the top-tier teams in the world. Here’s everything you need to know, including the format, teams in attendance and the key role the Lima Major plays in The International 12.
Dates & Venues
Starting with some general information about the Dota 2 event, The Lima Major 2023 will take palace in Lima, Peru. People who want to watch the event in person must go to Arena 1. As for the dates, the tournament starts on February 22 and will run until March 4.
Format & Schedule
The Lima Major will feature 18 teams in total. You can learn more about them by checking our overview of the teams that qualified for the Major.
The event’s organizers will divide the 18 teams into two groups of 9 teams each. Each team will have to play against the rest in a single round-robin format (Bo2 format). Once all of the matches are over, the top 4 squads advance to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs. Those who finish 5th and 6th will go to the Lower Bracket, whereas the others will be eliminated.
Playoffs
For the playoffs of The Lima Major Dota 2, there will be a double-elimination bracket. Every series until the Grand Final will be in a Bo3 format, whereas the last match will be in Bo5. The playoffs themselves will take place between February 28 and March 5.
The Teams
As mentioned, we’ve already reviewed the teams that will take part in The Lima Major 2023. A quick overview shows that some of them definitely look more impressive than others. In fact, we’ve also covered the biggest favorites in Groups A and B.
What’s important to know about the teams is that all of them have earned their spot in the event after competing in their respective DPC region. Each region had different slots, but only Western Europe and China had 4 in total.
