The founder and former G2 Esports CEO Carlos “ocelote” RodrÃguez Santiagos has promised to come back to esports if he wins at the Esports Awards this year.
“if I happen to win this, I promise a comeback,” he commented on Twitter about his nomination for the Esports Personality of the Year.
In this nomination, he will have to compete with the NAVI star Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, the iconic LoL player Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Optic Games’ founder Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez and others.
In addition to ocelote, G2 Esports itself and G2’s CS:GO player Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov were nominated for the award in other categories.
ocelote stepped down as G2’s CEO after the scandal by inviting Andrew Tate to the organization’s party, which is known for misogynistic statements. RodrÃguez initially defended his right to invite whoever he wanted, but the community criticized him even more harshly.
As a result, the ocelot not only left the chairmanship of G2. The G2 Valorant roster was excluded from Valorant Partnership program. Later, Riot Games temporarily suspended him from holding any managerial or operational position within a team or an organization in a Riot-sanctioned competition and force ocelote to complete sensitivity and executive trainings if he wants to return to the Riot-sanctioned esports ecosystem in any official capacity.
