Bad shooting habits and performance inconsistency are the main reasons many players can’t rank up in the Valorant console. Many players ignore that without a proper training routine, it is almost impossible to see actual improvements in their gameplay, especially for a shooting game like Valorant on a console, where aiming is most of the work.

Improving the aim in Valorant is essential for competitive success. This guide outlines a practical and efficient routine to help you develop consistency, better habits, and confidence in your gameplay.

Many Reddit users have discussed their aiming routing on the console and what types of mistakes you should avoid.

Before getting into the routine, we must discuss this necessary setting and how it affects your gameplay. This is a must-know to elevate your skills on the Valorant console.

A Key Setting for Valorant Console

    Focus Mode

    Valorant Focus Mode

Focus mode is an essential setting in the Valorant console; it helps players aim better and ensure consistent shots to the head rather than a hipshot. For a minute, you may think this is a cheat; you walk around the map in focus mode and snipe enemies head, well that is not the case here; focus mode also reduces your ability to flick around and make quick adjustments in a short sentence focus mode prefer precision over speed. Here is when to use focus mode

    Use:

    • Holding down tight, angels
    • Clearing angels

    Dont use:

    • When rushing to the site
    • When spamming a smoke
    • When trying to hit a fast target

    Building Foundational Skills

    Stopping and Shooting

In many ways, Valorant is a game that is different from other shooter FPSs, like Call of Duty. One of them is the shooting mechanism. In COD, you always have to move and shoot, while with Valorant, it is quite the opposite; standing still will give you the most accurate shots. To practice this, you need to head to the practice range and shoot at the wall while practicing stopping first; gradually increase speed and rhythm to build this as a natural habit.

    Basic Shooting Test

Once you understand the stopping and shooting concept, it is time to move and practice the coordination between movement and shooting. To accomplish this technique, make sure to follow these steps:

    • Step 1: Locate the console in the training area and start the shooting test on “easy.”
    • Step 2:
      • First round: Do not move; focus on using your right stick to aim.
      • Second round: Incorporate movement and stopping before shooting.

    Advancing in the Training Area

    Medium-Level Bots

After you accomplish the basic shooting test, it is time to step up the difficulty level to medium settings. Repeat the same exercise as the previous one but with different difficulty levels.

    Drone Shooting

    Drone Shooting Practice

This exercise meant to test your ability to track down enemy movements and, in this case, are drones; here is a step-by-step on how to improve your gameplay tracking:

    • Move outside the training area.
    • Start by shooting the large drone in the middle.
    • Progress to shooting smaller drones around the area:
      • Practice on the group of drones directly in front of you.
      • Turn left for an additional set of drones.
    • Objective: Build quick reflexes and learn to track targets dynamically.

    Practicing with Real Players

    Deathmatch Training

    Deathmatch with the Sheriff

Deathmatch is an excellent way of improving your mechanical skills in Valorant. Many Valorant pro players tend to play deathmatch to warm up and practice flick shots, spray control, and headshot accuracy; here is how a beginner Valorant console player should practice with deathmatch:

    • Play this as seriously as possible
    • Focus on using the Sheriff:
      • Each shot counts, as missed shots can cost you the duel.
      • Encourages precision over spamming.
    • Rules:
      • Do not crouch; maintain steady aim.
      • Prioritize one-on-one duels without worrying about winning the match.
    • Why: Helps improve headshot accuracy and discipline under pressure.

    Deathmatch with the Vandal

    • Once comfortable with the Sheriff, switch to the Vandal.
    • Practice in the same way, but avoid relying solely on it. Diversify your weapon skills.

    Tips for Long-Term Improvement

    Consistency is Key

    • Repetition creates muscle memory. Incorporate this routine daily for steady progress.

    Weapon Variety

    • Learn to aim with all types (pistols,  weapon SMGs, ARs, and snipers) to adapt to different game scenarios.

    Confidence Development

    • Confidence is critical:
      • Do not hesitate to face high-performing opponents in unrated matches.
      • Once you build enough confidence, challenge the enemy in 1V1 and swing unexpected angels.

How Long Will It Take to See Improvements?

When trying to improve something you like, you shouldn’t ask yourself how long it will take; the better question is what the result will look like. Most people are worried about time failure and do not complete the challenge. Staying motivated is the key to success in these situations where hard work meets results in the end. Generally, people start seeing results in the second week following the routine with everyday consistency.
