Valorant and Leauge of Legends developer Riot Games have announced deleting inactive players’ accounts on servers.
The company explained this decision including the security measures they will be adopting.
“People who want to steal data, cause issues, play Teemo, you know, the usual. We want players to know that their accounts and personal data are safe so we have been ramping up our security and privacy efforts. This year, after a long time coming, we officially launched 2FA to help improve player security. Next up, we are about to take a new step to delete very inactive accounts!” Riot reported.
Riot listed the criteria for accounts to be deleted:
- Account is inactive. It means that there has not been any login activity across any of Riot’s games, applications or web properties for over three years.
- Account did not purchase any game currency in its lifetime
- Account did not receive any game currency in its lifetime
- Account has played fewer than 20 hours
- Account does not own any rare limited edition game entitlements
Accounts must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for deletion due to inactivity.
The game developer also promised to email each user a warning about account termination.
âWe will begin enforcing this new inactive account deletion policy over the next few months. If you receive an email about your account being subject to deletion due to inactivity, you can visit Player Support, login to your account, and follow the instructions to opt-out of the account deletion,â Riot said in a statement.
